New here - just about to start visiting venues!
Hi everyone! A coworker of mine just let me know about this site so I joined right away. Got engaged in mid-October and am just gearing up to start the planning process. As of now we are looking at April 2016 but we really aren't dead set on anything except that we'll avoid the summer months. None of my friends have had Long Island weddings so I can already tell you all will be a wealth of information :)My main question is where to begin when looking at venues? I've really only looked up places online but there is obviously not a ton of information (especially price ranges) on there. We'd like to stay in Nassau as the church ceremony will be in Garden City. Our rough count of invites will be in the 180-200 range. I just don't want to make appointments to go anywhere just to fall in love with something out of our budget. As of right now I think I'd like to keep things under the $110pp range and would preferably have the fees cover as much as possible.
I feel like this was a long-winded intro but any guidance is much appreciated!

New here - just about to start visiting venues!
I started out by making a list of venues we liked the look of online and based on recommendations from friends/ladies on here. I used the venue guide on this website (found under planning) to see if the venues could even hold our # of guests (we wanted to guarantee 150 at the time). Then I e-mailed all the venues looking for quotes for the time frame we were looking for. I have a TON of quotes, if you want I can FM them to you. They're from March for Oct/Nov 2016 mostly, but they'll at least give you a general idea. Good luck in the planning process! Also, I have to toot Fox Hollow's horn a little because they're my venue and I love them!! We're guaranteeing 175 for a friday night and paying $114pp+ for a Friday in August so I'm sure it'd be under your budget for April!
Good luck and welcome! =)

Thank you so much for this info! Fox Hollow is definitely on my list. So far I had FH, Stewart Manor CC, Westbury Manor, Milleridge Inn, Jericho Terrace which all seemed to have spaces to fit our group. I guess I never thought of the possibility that they would send us quotes via e-mail or over the phone - that would definitely save a trip to every place if we can immediately rule it out based on pricing.I'd love to see the quotes you have! If April doesn't work out for us for some reason Oct/Nov 2016 is our backup :)

I unfortunately don't have any quotes for any venues in Nassau since I was looking more at Suffolk County, but welcome and congratulations! This site is great, everyone is so helpful! The only venue I've really been to is the Riviera. My cousin had her reception there back in 2010 and the venue was beautiful and the food was great!

You have fm! Some places would give quotes through email and others wouldn't so we had to go there. So at least my list can give you a general idea.

P.S. I e-mailed about 40 places based on reviews, pictures and other information I knew about the venues. I made a list of my top 5 contenders and visited them and booked that night.

Congrats and welcome! Unfortunately I don't have any quotes for those places but I just wanted to recommend crest hollow country club if you haven't looked at it yet. 2 of my coworkers are getting married there and they rave about it. Also not too far from garden city

I'm going to FM you the quote I have for Jericho terrace. Of corse I'm biased cuz I choose them but I also have for bridgeview yacht club in island park. I would seriously just say sit down with your fiancé and talk about budget and talk about the feel you both want for your wedding and when you go to the place with that feel you'll both know! Have fun, enjoy and don't be afraid to ask questions and negotiate! Congrats and welcome!

Thanks so much for the info! Added JT to our must-visit list. I'm going to have to leave the negotiating up to my fiance and mom - I'm awful! I just want to go into places informed so I don't get taken advantage of.
