NEW JEWISH WEDDING THREAD

Original post by LaurenF

hey ladies- i'm getting married at Temple Beth El in Cedarhurst and I often feel like a loney temple bride because everyone has all these threads about Westbury Monor, Swan Clun, etc. but no one has a 'temple' thread! I don't even know if I have a hall twin!!!

I'm getting married at a Temple as well - Temple Bnai Sholom in Rockville Centre (same as MBG)

We are doing a bedekken (veiling of the bride by the groom) and tish (groom's party before the ceremony where he and the other boys drink, sing, and distract him from the big duty at hand).

How do you ladies (with strapless dresses) feel about having bare shoulders in the temple under the chuppah? I think I am ok with my veil covering my shoulders so I am not wearing a jacket.

Hi Lauren!
I think you should do what makes you most comfortable - but definitely check with the Rabbi first. I am getting married at my hall, so hopefully my Rabbi will ok just the veil as my shoulder covering. One of my friends got married at a temple in Dix Hills a few years ago, and the Rabbi made her wear a little shawl, her veil alone was not enough.

Re: NEW JEWISH WEDDING THREAD

Hi, maybe you girls can help me. I'm getting married at my hall and am trying to incorporate some Jewish traditions into my ceremony since FH and I are from different religious backgrounds. This may sound dumb but, is there a store I can go to to buy the glass/bag for FH to step on? I'm 2 weeks away from my wedding and don't think I have time to order something. And what are the 7 blessings?

Thank you so much for your help!

Try Zion Lion in New Hyde Park. That's where we got ours. They also have another store in Huntington.

my florist FBB is also doing my chuppah.

FBB is doing our chuppah as well. Mike is really great to work with and really nice. I found some really nice ideas on here as well for it.

My mother REALLY wanted me to get married at their temple, Temple Beth Torah but I had other ideas. They do a great job , the food is great but both my sister and I were bat mitzvah'ed there and I didn't want my wedding at the same place. I really wanted to do the ceremony there but they said no since they reserve it for events going on there (which is really annoying since we've been members so long). They told me I would need to wait 3 months before my wedding to see what if they have availibility

However the rabbi is coming to TC for the ketubah and ceremony. I just hope he's ontime since I found out that Purim is the week we are getting married and there is a ceremony at the temple until 11.

Hi everyone! I'm not getting married in a shul but we're doing a Jewish ceremony at the RH.

I'm wondering whether any of you got a Hebrew phrase ('ani l'dodi...' etc) on your invitations, or had your Hebrew names in the invitations, or even just put the 'beit hay' in the right corner of the invitation. I've been looking at invitations online and can't seem to find very many that have those options. Do I need to work directly with a person?

I really want to do this as well if not on the invite then on the programs. One of my friiends did this many years ago and I love the sentiment.

Let me know if you hear anything!!!

We did a beit hay. I found that many of the online vendors didnt do it (i.e. not from a box, jean M, etc) and some did, but didnt state it on the website. We wound up ordering encore invites from jbink.com because they were 25% off. You can definitely have hebrew writing on checkerboard, elite, encore, vera wang invites. My suggestion is to go to a store, check out the books so you can see what is available and then look online to see where you can get the best price. They are printed by the companies, not the person you are ordering from, so if you find one that you like that has it, you can then go anywhere online to order.

Re: NEW JEWISH WEDDING THREAD

Hi Lauren, Im also just going to cover my shoulders with the veil but Im going to get the BM's a shawl to wrap around theirs and my mother and FMIL are both going to be wearing something to cover their shoulders. But, Im not using the temple's rabbi so he may even be more lenient (its not even our rabbi who cares, its my family, go figure)
