It seems that there have been a few post about children attending the wedding. So yet again I'll ask...children or no children.
ETS: FH's nephew is the only child attending wedding. He is the Junior Best Man. He's nine and VERY close with FH.

I had a children's table with a babysitter and some activities for her to do with them. It worked out great and I love kids. They actually were well behaved and they had alot of fun.
do you think it will look weird to have 2 or 3 kids tables?
i dont think so - but do you think you will have THAT many
what are their ages. . .i think anyone under 5 should be with their parents bc they need some assistance eating etc. anyone over 16 should also probably be with the adults too
Well 2 tables we would DEFINITELY have...his moms sister who has 3 sons that are all married have about 8 kids all together and they mentioned to the kids about attending our wedding so thats 8 right there plus our junior bridesmaids brother who is fh's first cousins son and its the cousin he is the closest to, so thats one table already and thats just fh's moms side which is the small side, fh's dad side is the HUGE side and theres quite a few kids so they would definitely fit at a 2nd table and then it also depends on which of our friends would bring their kids and then theres also my side, a couple of my parents close friends have young kids
but yeah some are younger so they can sit with the parents...i dont know i keep going back and forth on this

Thats nice to have a kids table or maybe all the kids can sit together. I never saw kids get roudy at a wedding but if you give them something to do I am sure they will be good all night.

I love kids at weddings! They always make for the best photos!! However we are not inviting people with kids if they are not family or first cousins. FH's family is huge and extended so we had to draw the line somwhere...

OH it seems like that will be the case lol
if i invite kids and they're all over the place, which they will be lol then fh will get real annoyed and here is the other problem...fh says that whenever theres family events its his dad that ends up taking care of all the kids which is another reason why he doesn't want kids there so this way his dad doesn't do this. We don't invite kids some people will be mad at us...why can't ppl make it easy and just want to come to a wedding without their kids, this way if there are a few ppl who do bring kids then it won't be bad. 10 kids i'll deal with, more than that its hard

well in my case it would be tables bc i would have to do a few of them...one thing i can guarantee is that if we allow kids there would DEFINITELY and without a doubt be about 15-18 kids off the top of my head, so then i would hire 2 babysitters or 3 depending on who else brings kids.
LOL uhmmm ive been to parties with these kids, i am not assuming but know how they act. And even not with these kids but other events ive been to i always see kids acting up...if theres a handful of them they won't but if you have 20 kids that are around the same age then its different
ahhh i don't know really and that still doesn't solve my problem about costing me $90 a kid, even when i come up with solutions such as babysitters at the wedding with kids tables, its still an issue of paying $90 a kid

Re: New Poll for the night...CHILDREN
I prefer not to have kids there, but if they are out of state then I could see them coming.
I have 2 little cousins in GA that are being invited, but I doubt they are coming up for our wedding anyway.
Im only against the kids coming whos parents allow they to get outta hand and dont keep an eye on them. ...other than that- its fine.
But then again we really dont have many kids in our family besides my nephew (3, RB) and my brother, a Jr GM (12) and they are both coming

I cant imagine not having my little cousin's to share my special day. My fondest memories is me and my older cousin's getting drunk for the first time at my aunt Gina's wedding. Im only paying half price for kids anyway.

i am paying half price too...and i don't have any little cousins, no nieces, no nephews, infact no little kids in my family...fh has no nieces, nephews or little first cousins but TONS of young 2nd cousins...seems like all of you want kids there to have these certain family members there but what if you didn't? what if it was all 2nd cousins and kids of friends, would it still matter just as much to everyone?
part of me feels real horrible for saying we don't want to invite kids but then again my situation is different than so many, we dont have nieces, nephews or first cousins that are that young

denise you dont have to keep explaining yourself everyone has a different situation.
i have tried time and time again to explain that i could never get married without my nieces and nephews there and someone ( even you! ) will come back with how horrible kids are at every single event they have ever been to - it makes me get so nervous that i made the wrong choice
but then it seems like you are battling the same decision. . . .that is why i said no matter your decision you will be wrong! if you DONT invite them you will feel like a wedding grinch that doesn tlike kids and if you DO invite them like i did you will feel like your wedding is going to turn into a circus and everyone will have a horrible time
you cant win

you're right, the explaining is basically us convincing ourselves...i guess its when ppl asked what the big deal was about having kids...i feel like its viewed as i just dont like little kids and thats not the problem at all lol.
But you're right, no matter what i'll do i am going to be wrong one way or another, i cant win.

A lot of my first cousin's are older and have big families. I am not inviting their kids (my 2nd cousins) because it would just be insane.

i am ALWAYS trying to convince myself ESPECIALLY on LIW that is why there are so many posts where i go on and on about my decision ( ABOUT ANYTHING) and then like the next day i post that i made the opposite decision!
i feel like such a hypocrite sometimes!

Everyone knows it has nothing to do with you not liking kids and if people think that they are a$$holes. It comes down to will you have the space, the extra money, worrying about having to find babysitters (which shouldn't be your responsibility), and making sure kids aren't misbehaving. No one is going to win. It's your wedding. Do what you and FH want not what everyone else wants you to do.

Only kids 'allowed' (that sounds so bad) are my flower girl (5), ring bearer 3 and a half), and two of my nephews (8 and 11)

Re: New Poll for the night...CHILDREN
I did kids over 18. BUT, if the 18+ year old is invited as well as their parents, I would include the younger sibling as well. I know it's bad to make exceptions, but I felt bad inviting all the members of one family except the younger kid.
Oh...and the kids of family members are invited...no matter what age.

You are absolutely right Im inviting my first little cousins. I used to live with them. They are 18, 14, and 5. I have a son who is 7, my FH as a 9 year old and my friends kids she has a boy and a girl. That's all the kids Im having Im not babysitting my guest kids that's crazy. These kids mean more to me then anybody they are close family to me and Im going to have a kids table for them. That's why Im inviting them. I don't have the money or the time for anybody else's kids.

Im doing What is good for me. And I feel you have to do what's right for you. Its your wedding your the bride if you don't want kids or you feel a wedding is not the right environment for children then don't invite children Im sure that your guest will understand sometimes. You have to make yourself happy. I wish all you girls the best sorry if my comment offended anybody.
