New Poll for the night...CHILDREN

Original post by jeffamanda080808

It seems that there have been a few post about children attending the wedding. So yet again I'll ask...children or no children.

ETS: FH's nephew is the only child attending wedding. He is the Junior Best Man. He's nine and VERY close with FH.

WOW I have been seeing alot of posts like this one concerning children, for me no event would be complete without having kids there. I see alot of people have trouble with kids at a wedding

no see thats why i had to explain bc i want people to understand that i have absolutely no problem with kids but at the same time having 30 kids there at one time can also become a bit much...i think alot of ppl who think 'how can they have a wedding without kids' dont realize that some of us are in different situations. If i invited all my guests with kids and it would only be like 5 or even 10 kids then that would be different, but can you imagine a wedding with 20-30 kids between the ages of 2-7 ...and not only that but others are in different situations with how much we'd have to pay for them...i would have to pay $90 for them to eat chicken fingers and fries, i think its a bit expensive for that and especially since i can guarantee alot of these kids won't even eat their food.

If it was less per kid and most importantly if there were just a few kids coming then i would be more than happy to have them there. Ive been to weddings and other events where there were ALOT less kids and i couldnt hear anything during speeches bc they'd be in the middle of the floor screaming the whole team, and you know how the greeks have a priest come to bless your rings at e-party well none of that was heard bc of all the kids standing right by them screaming and playing. IF i find out ahead of time that ALOT of ppl we know with kids don't want to bring their kids then ill change the rule but from what i see more ppl want to bring their kids rather than not bring them.

Why cant the parents babysit the kids? Hundreds of weddings Ive been to, I have never seen someone other than the parents babysit the kids.

i know...if people dont want to bring them dont.

MOST do not do this, and i think this is what aggrevates me the most...parents will bring their kids to events and let them go nuts...i think they see it as free babysitters everywhere...sometimes i'll see a kid so out of control and just look at the parent wondering if they're going to do anything about it and they just don't. There are some parents who do take care of them but otherwise i would say a majority of them like to let their kids do whatever. Since there is no way to guarantee what parents will do, i can't bet on this happening

Bless your soul!! My per head is above $100 and we're serving a sit down Indian dinner.. I wish there was a way to make the parents understand!!

The recent wedd Ive been to my friend that got married has alll young kids in her family and they were all there, like 20 kids, they were fine. I enjoy watching kids having a good time and dancing and playing. I guess everyone is different in this category. When I was younger my parents brought to me every single wedding, and my 2 sisters everywhere. So I guess I have a different mindframe on this topic.

What if someone had a 2 year old sibling, they are not going to invite them??? I dont get it

If they are family or close friends, you have to invite everyone.. otherwise just Mr & Mrs

When you HAVE to invite 300 to 400 people for your wedding, it's impossible to have everyone bring their children.. there will be a few.. as there should be!!

blah.. this topic always gets me thinking..

THANK YOU!!!! ppl dont realize that with 300-400 guests the amount of kids that might come can be quite large. Sorry i keep stressing this, but i think some ppl who will only have lets say 3 kids or 7 kids at their wedding don't understand what the big deal is, hey i wouldn't mind that many kids. But really try imagining 30 little kids and 30 is just fh's family and his friends, i am sure i am forgetting others

yeah but if you are paying lets say $160 or higher, then half off is alot. The $80-90 is the half off i received

Kids under 4 are free.. otherwise you pay in full.. their reasoning is that.. if they person requires place setting, then it is full price..

thanks for reminding me that some will be full price...2 and under its free, then ages above that are $90, and i think around 7 and up or something like that its full price. I was at a little over 3k to invite kids but with some being full price its over 3k.

of course i would pay for a couple of kids and especially those in my family, but I have NO kids in my family so no kids that would come are even related to me...they are either related to fh, none of them being even his first cousins bc him and his brother are the youngest of the cousins so its mostly 2nd cousins. The rest are kids of his friends

we will have our rb and fg at the wedding though

Re: New Poll for the night...CHILDREN

i stressed about this but in the end we only have about 12 kids coming

that means under 18 but it is broken down like this

5 are between 10 and 15
4 are between 4 and 9
3 are between 1 and 3

so the older kids arent really 'kids' and 2 of the babies are leaving after the CH. . . everyone else is going to stay and PARTY i love it

btw - you CANT WIN people actually called me up to complain that i invited kids . . . they werent going to bring their own kids so they didnt understand why they had to deal with other kids there. . .

but i bet those SAME people would have complained if i DIDNT invite kids!

honestly you really can't win at all...i had the same thing happen recently. Somebody told me they are not bringing their kid bc they dont think its appropriate to bring kids to weddings and same thing about them being noisy and all over the place and the problem being that parents don't take care of their kids.

I also have to point out like i did above that i have absolutely NO kids in my family so its not like i am not inviting nieces or nephews well i have none lol and neither does FH. He has alot of his 1st cousins who have lots of children so the kids would be his 2nd cousins. Some we do see a decent amount but there are others ive either met very few times or even some i have never met. However, kids like our RB and FG are different. RB is one of fh's best friends and we see them alot and are around the kid alot so i want him there, same with FG, she lives across the street from fh and are around her.

I think ppl are just thinking about their situations and need to realize we're not all in the same situation. I know many of you have nieces and nephews you couldn't imagine not being there, well i dont have any of that and neither does fh. He is close to a few of the 2nd cousins that are kids but just very few. So its not like we're telling kids we are around all the time that they can't come or those we are extremely close. If i had nieces and nephews and other kids i was VERY close to then i would definitely handle this situation differently

i understand that!!

the kids are FH's first cousins or our nieces and nephews

its not like we invited our neighbors with their kids or anything LOL

btw the person who complained was actually complaining about her OWN grandchild coming. . .why can you call up your son and say hey, lets not bring the kids to the wedding - instead of calling up the bride and saying 'i know you cant do anything about it NOW but WHY did you invite kids'

yeah see if we were in that situation then of course we'd invite them too if we had nieces and nephews and 1st cousins.

LOL omg that is funny though but you know what, the grandmother is probably saying this bc maybe she knows she'll be the one who ends up taking care of them and she wants to enjoy the wedding.

I don't know but when i have kids, i personally am gonna leave them at home. For one, these are real young kids who shouldn't be dragged around and kept up until very late. Ive seen many times these kids falling asleep on chairs and stuff or them being very cranky and tired and wanting to go home but the parents want to still stay so they'll say a little while longer. If they're in the BP and the couple want them there then thats different but even alot of ppl i know will have their kid be in the bp and then after the ceremony drop them off at their parents house or something.

I don't know what will happen but i have a feeling i might end up with 30 kids in the end so maybe i should keep my mouth shut...well not 30 bc i know some ppl who dont bring their kids even if they are invited.
