*New Prob* Anyone have/had a kitten? Need advice!

Original post by FuTuRe MrS MaZz

So I looked into his ears, and theres all blank gunk in em... I read that it could be ear mites, but havent seen him scratching at them really... If we bring him to a vet, is it gonna cost a fortune? Bc Im considering just going to petco and telling them whats up and seeing if they have some type of med i can treat his ears with... Any suggestions?

It sounds like an ear infection, but first you can try Petco and tell them what you saw in his ears and maybe they have some kind of ear wash you can clean out his ears with. This may save you a trip to the vet. After my cat died we got a german shepard and since they have big ears she gets ear infections every summer. We keep a supply of an ear wash at home and some anti biotics and just treat her ourselves unless it gets really bad.

Try petco and see if they have something, they should have some drops.

When mine was a kitten he had this but also had an eye infection so i had to take him to the vet and i dont think it cost a fortune at all.. they would probably just give you some prescription drops.. but def try the pet store first.

We always fed our cats twice a day. He would get dry in the morning mixed with a little water and wet at night.
For a kitten that little I would feed him/her about 3 to 4 times a day with small amounts so his/her little stomach can digest it.
Good luck and post a picture when you can. I just love kittens and think the only thing cuter than a kitten is a baby (human of course).

Heres a pic!

can i have him???

buy some ear cleaning solution at petco and clean his ears. see if they are inflamed or swollen or smell like bread (a sign of yeast) or have any little bugs. If not its probably just dirt and wax and shouldn't be a problem. It's probably nothing if they don't seem to me bothering him i wouldn't worry

I second that! And use some Q-tips to clean out the ears with whatever solution you choose. They usually say to use cotton balls, but they are too big, especially for tiny kitten ears.

And you kitten is so cute!

You have to do what we used to do,
When you go to the vet tell him you DO NOT have the moneyfor anything extra and you just want to fix whats going on now. No extra shots, no extra vitamins etc. Just get the meds for his ears. This works like a charm :)

Thanks ladies for all your help! We went to petco, saw the cleaning solution but decided not to get it and take her to the vet instead... We went in, made an appt for thurs to have a checkup and best of all, the receptionist behind the desk snunk us a coupon so we could get it for free! (reg its $28 for a 1st time customer... $58 any other time)
