New taxes!!! More $$$$$$$

New taxes!!! More $$$$$$$

Just read this on WC, this is horrible!

'The new tax rate is going into effect on Sunday. I thought that since I have a balance due to my caterer that the new tax rate would be charged on the balance. Well, I just called my caterer and they told me that the new tax rate would be charged on the entire cost of the event, because it takes place in June. I think this is horrible. We have paid about 3/4 of our balance already. I don't understand how they can put the new tax rate onto money we have paid already. Is anyone else running into this problem?'

A lot of people responded yes.

I just signed with Westbury Manor last night and asked why I'm charged with the new tax. He said that the tax applies to the date of service (for me, July/2004). So if the taxes go up again next year...

My tax percentage was written in my contract. I am going to call them and ask.

Wait, why are they charging you 8.625%. The sales tax rate in Nassau County was always 8.5% (except for clothing). The city is only going up to 8.625%. People having there reception in Nassau County should not be affected.

Where can I find out the true tax for Nassau county? He said it went up in Nassau on June 1st.

What about Suffolk County?

Re: New taxes!!! More $$$$$$$

oh thats not a big deal at all. I guess it only really affects city people. For a sec, I thought it was statewide. I hope the state doesn't change their mind. Even if its only a few hundred different, still more money than I have!

Nav023,

That's what I heard, it doesn't matter what it says in your contract, you still get charged the new tax because its based on service.

...so it does affect Long Island weddings, thats sad.

Mayor Bloomberg STINKS!

I am not a bloomberg fan at all, but he has nothing to do with taxes going up in Long Island. The state raised their taxes too. We get that double whammy in the city between the state & city tax increase

It's a shame some of you got stuck paying so much more. But I really don't think having the tax rate written on the contract will make a difference. The tax is collected by law. Sorry

I just called the Manor East and yes we have to pay the 8.75% on our hall bill not what is stated on our contract.

Where is everyone getting 8.75% - the city was going up to 8.625% and Nassau and Suffolk was going to be 8.5%

I bought clothes yesterday in suffolk and the bottom of my receipt says 8.75 % sales tax thats where I got it from.

Re: New taxes!!! More $$$$$$$

It is suppose to be 8.63% but they rounded it off to the cloest quarter so it is 8.75%.
