Just read this on WC, this is horrible!

'The new tax rate is going into effect on Sunday. I thought that since I have a balance due to my caterer that the new tax rate would be charged on the balance. Well, I just called my caterer and they told me that the new tax rate would be charged on the entire cost of the event, because it takes place in June. I think this is horrible.We have paid about 3/4 of our balance already. I don't understand how they can put the new tax rate onto money we have paid already. Is anyone else running into this problem?'

We still aren't paying tax on clothing over $100 right, in NYC?

Yes we are. They got rid of that exception too.

I got this from the NYS Tax website

The clothing exemptions were repealed in the state.

The Nassau & Suffolk county sales tax is 8.75%

Effective tomorrow the NYC sales tax will be 8.625%

Our contract quotes a price inclusive of tax and gratuity...I wonder if they will increase it now???

My contracts have the tax quote already in it but it still does not matter. I am still being charged the 8.75%.

Basically the nassau county tax went up by .25. I already figured how much more it would be with the new tax. Its not much but that money can easily go somewhere else.

Wanda I thought the same thing. It comes out to not a lot of extra money but extra money that I did not anticipate having to spend.

Thank you ladies for the clarification on these tax rates!! I just didn't want to feel jerked by my reception hall. It's hard not to be a skeptic and cynical when it comes to contracts.
