I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes after spending an hour trying to get my new soft contact lenses in. They're a trial pair and if they do work out, then I can order a supply. If they don't work out, I have to wear my glasses on my wedding day.
Any advice on getting them in easier? I'm beyond frustrated!!!
I've been wearing glasses all my life, tried contacts in the mid-90s, hard lenses that I couldn't get out at all, gave up. My eyesight is horrible, plus I have astigmatism. I'm blind without my glasses!!
It took me an hour to put them in at the eye doctor earlier this afternoon, a little easier to get out. They told me to build up time wearing them, try 3 hours, then 5, then 7, then all day. While they were in my eyes in the office, I was FINE! I couldn't believe how clearly I could see!!
Now, I'm just frustrated. My eyes are too sore and red to try again tonight.
Anyone else have problems getting contacts in and out? Anyone who wears them, is there any advice you can give on how to get them in without making my eyes sore?

Hard to explain but Try pulling bottom lid down and looking up the same time when pyying it in you eye. After it is in your eye then pull top lid up and look down and all around. Works for me. Hope this helps a little. It takes a lot of practice at first.

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
Thank you for the advice.
I figured out that I blink too much whenever something comes close to my eye, and even though I'm holding my upper eyelid open, it slips and I blink so the lens sticks to my lashes, instead of suctioning to my eye.
Getting them out years ago was difficult for me, and this time around, it's getting them in.

I started using contacts in 10th grade. Every morning for about a week I'd sit for half an hour trying to get them in. It was really hard for me but I got used to it and can now do it w/o a mirror.
I think w/ contacts you just gotta practice until it comes naturally. Its a pain in the @ss but you get the hang of it eventually.

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
ive had them since 7th grade so by now, im a pro at it, taking em in and out in a matter of seconds (helps alot when you're half asleep trying to get em out eheh)
the trick is to put them on the whites of your eyes... once in, i push them up to my eye by rubbing the skin right under my eye (not sure if that makes sense, i hope so bc it works like a charm!) then once in, i usually close my eye and rub my eyelid in a circular motion to get out any air pockets that might be under the contact...
PS: if it feel like its slippin right off of your eye once you have it in, that means its inside out... take it back out and flip it around

I've had contacts since 7th grade... try holding your top lid if you have the tendancy to blink... or putting them in at the outside corner and blink them in.. always fill the lens with solution, it is more soothing to the eye.
good luck! and take your time..

cutting my nails a little helped me situate the contact better on my finger, so that it would go in my eye more easily

whatever you do when they are in DONT LOOK UP!!! If they are uncomfortable look down and they should readjust themselves.....as Mazz said it may take awhile to get used to the feeling of it being inside out. You do get used to it though.

try lifting your eyelid up with one hand and try to place the lens on your eye with your index finger on your other hand. it took me awhile to get used to them at first. you are just going to need some practice.

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
It gets easier with time. I 've had them for years. I have very sensitive eyes. It's difficult if anyone does my eye make-up or if the eye doctor puts drops in my eyes. I thought I would never get used to them. At first it felt like I had something in my eyes, like an eyelash or something and it was so uncomfortable and irritating. After a few weeks, I think they were unnoticeable. I've been wearing them for years and love them. I don't know what I would do without them.
Good luck

i've had them since I was 14 so I am now a pro and can stick em right on without a flinch... but when I first got them it took FOREVER to get them in. Keep trying, it definitely takes getting used to and practice!

YES!! I keep looking up when I should be looking down. I think I also need a bigger mirror to practice this. I'm using a small round stand-up mirror that's great for my morning makeup routine, but this just isn't cutting it.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, my long nails pretty much all broke off in the past week or so while fixing things around my classroom. I always have long nails in the summer, then once school starts, they all break off. I was trying to grow them and keep them manicured to prepare for the wedding, but they're much shorter now, so they're not in the way.

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
Everyone has given good advice...the only thing I could say is just take a deep breathe when putting them in and try to relax....when you are tense your eye will flutter more and it will make it harder for you....it took me a while to get the hang of it....in about a week you will be fine
good luck!

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
I recently got contact for the first time as well. I also had a hard time getting them in and had to go to the doc's office twice! I finally realized that what works best for me is to pull my lower lid down, while looking up, and placing it in. I don't touch my upper lid at all, it was too hard that way! Good luck! And don't stress, you'll get it eventually.

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
I started wearing lenses at 13 and the first few days were terrible. I used to cry cause I couldnt get them in. Now they go in like theyre part of my eyes lol. You have to learn to get comfortable touching your eye cause thats where the problem lie. In the beginning, I tried to get my finger out of my eye as soon as possible and the lens would pop out. Now I hold the bottom lid down, slide the contact towards the bottom of my eye and into my eye, then I hold the top lid up and position the lens where its supposed to be. You have to make sure it isnt bubbling cause then it will pop out and then let go of the lids. It sounds weird, HTH. It will get so much easier I promise!

Re: new to contact lenses.... any advice?
I just started wearing contacts myself. I went in August and had to go for 2 training sessions and the 2nd time I finally got them in and out twice. It still takes me 10-20 minutes to get them both in. I have to pull my lower lid down, not too much and then pull my upper lid from under the lashes. it might sound weird, but it works most of the time. And you will start to get more comfortable and not flutter your lids as much. I did the same thing when I first started and the contact kept popping out! You will get it. Hang in there and don't get frustrated. Even if it still takes you a few minutes, if you can get it in that's all that matters!!!
