new to contact lenses.... any advice?

Original post by CC11208

I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes after spending an hour trying to get my new soft contact lenses in. They're a trial pair and if they do work out, then I can order a supply. If they don't work out, I have to wear my glasses on my wedding day.

Any advice on getting them in easier? I'm beyond frustrated!!!

I've been wearing glasses all my life, tried contacts in the mid-90s, hard lenses that I couldn't get out at all, gave up. My eyesight is horrible, plus I have astigmatism. I'm blind without my glasses!!

It took me an hour to put them in at the eye doctor earlier this afternoon, a little easier to get out. They told me to build up time wearing them, try 3 hours, then 5, then 7, then all day. While they were in my eyes in the office, I was FINE! I couldn't believe how clearly I could see!!

Now, I'm just frustrated. My eyes are too sore and red to try again tonight.

Anyone else have problems getting contacts in and out? Anyone who wears them, is there any advice you can give on how to get them in without making my eyes sore?

Aww! When I first started wearing them I was 14 and I had to get up 2 hours early bc it took me so long to get them in! Don't worry though, as time goes by you will get the hang of it and it will be like second nature to you.

Thanks again to everyone!! I just got home from work and have been reading your advice. I talked to a friend at work and she's been wearing them for ages, said pretty much the same things you all have. So..... I'm going to attempt this again. I figure that I've done MUCH harder things in life. This should be easy compared to all I've been through!
