Newbie!

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to quickly introduce myself. My name is Ashley and I got engaged to my best friend this past Saturday in Washington D.C. We are super excited to start wedding planning, and are hoping to get married sometime in the spring/summer of 2011.

Since Kendra asked, John (my FH) and I met in high school. We were introduced by my best friend, who was dating a friend of his at the time. We had a 'summer romance' and were totally crazy about each other, but then I ended it when he left in August for college because I didn't want to be 'that girl' who waited for her college boyfriend. It was honestly the best thing for us, since at the time I was only 15 and had a LOT of growing up to do. We were very close friends for the following seven years but always had feelings for one another. Long story short, eventually it just came down to the point that we knew we wanted to be together and made it happen! We've been together ever since!

As far as the engagement, I kind of walked right into the whole thing. My FH is a federal agent and at one point in our relationship was detailed in DC. We both kept saying that we wanted to take a long weekend trip away, and I suggested DC (where FH was planning on proposing the whole time). We spent the day walking around seeing the monuments, and after dinner he asked if I wanted to see the rest of the monuments. I didn't put two and two together that the last monument left was the Thomas Jefferson memorial, which you get to by walking on the path of the tidal basin. So the funny part of this is that FH had been planning on proposing on that path (where the cherry trees are) but by the time we got there after dinner it was PITCH BLACK. So FH is freaking out that his master plan has been screwed up because seriously, the path was kinda scary. We kept walking though, and stopped off at the FDR memorial. For those of you who don't know it, it is this beautiful memorial with lit waterfalls. We decided to sit down, and were hugging and whatnot, when FH told me that he loved me and had a question for me. He got down on one knee, said a little speech about how much he loves me...and proposed!! It was seriously the best moment of my life. I'm still on cloud nine and was SO surprised.

Thanks for asking and letting me relive it. I will have to post pictures when I get home later today!!

Haha -- One of my favorite movies! Plus I want a pink wedding!
