Hi fellow brides-to-be! I am recently engaged (yay!) and starting the process of looking at venues, choosing a date, picking bridal party...
Just wondering if anyone has any good tips and suggestions - things you did at the beginning of the process that really helped, things you wished you did, things to avoid, etc.
Also, if anyone has any price quotes for a Sunday in 2015, that would be super helpful! Our initial list includes Fox Hollow, the Somerley, Insignia, Harbor Club at Prime, Carlyle on the Green, Bourne Mansion and the Village Club.
If you had/are having your wedding at any of these places, would love to hear any and all thoughts/reviews!
Thanks in advance!!

Newly Engaged! Appreciate Any Help!
The very first thing we did when planning our wedding was the budget. Then came contacting some of our newly married friends about their vendors/venues. Its also important to figure out what you're willing to spend money on, and what is the least of your priority. For us it was venue, photog/videographer, and dj. I wasn't really concerned with the other stuff as much. That helped steer us in the direction of which venues to go see, and who to use.
Also, when meeting with any potential vendor, don't seem too eager and always see if you can pay in cash. Quite a few of our vendors slashed their price by a couple hundred bucks, or at least didn't charge sales tax. If this is a vendor that a friend has used, it also helps to casually mention them. We did this with our videographer and he gave us a 10% discount.
Hope that helps, and congrats on the engagement!

Congrats and happy planning!
Love the Somerley but I may be biased since that's my venue! I should definitely have quotes at home for the Somerley, just not sure if its for Sunday, let me check. I also have Spring/Fall quotes for Friday and Sat at Chateau La Mer and Lands End. I can send those as well.
A few things - when you are meeting with vendors, always try and negotiate. If you leave a vendor hanging for a few days and say you are trying to decide or unsure of which vendor to chose but they are in the running they will most likely discount or throw in something.

Congrats! Budget first before anything else, then a tentative guest list so you know how many people, then start searching for venues. Everything is negotiable.. Our venue wouldn't budge on price or minimum but they threw in a bunch of extras to make it easier to swallow. I love everything about fox hollow and the somerley although my wedding is in the garden terrace room because the somerley was just out of reach financially for us. Let me know if you need any quotes! I have for fox hollow, chateau Briand, lands end, Venetian yacht club, jericho terrace, the lombardis locations, and east wind :) good luck!

I'm in the beginning of the process also! Although I'm done looking at venues.. I think. I saw about 10 and have narrowed it down to three.
Knowing your budget and approx. guest number is def helpful and one of the first steps (or it has been for me)
Congrats on your engagement!! :)
