Newly Engaged - First Post and I need your help!

Original post by AFutureBride

Hi Everyone!

I am newly engaged and just starting to plan my wedding. Haven't picked a date yet, but hope to have it sometime next year.

I will be having a large wedding with approx. 400 guests and looking for a reception hall under $100. We are currently thinking of late July or early August 09. Are there any options available in my price range?

My engagement announcement was just posted, please check out my proposal story =)

Alicia & Ikhwan

Thank you!!

***Edit - We are looking for a Saturday or Sunday night preferably

sunday i'm not sure but it doesn't hurt to look....

we started looking at halls in march of 08 and there were a bunch that were already book for 7/11/09 so my advice to you is make a list of posible halls and make some calls see if they are availible still then the ones that are go take a look at

Our ceremony and reception will take place on different days so location of the hall is not an issue. But I don't want it too far out in Long Island...I live in Valley Stream and would like it to be less than an hour away.

Ceremony on Saturday and Reception on Sunday night.

I've been surfing the web and came up with a few reception halls I like:

Chateau Briand
Chateau La Mer
Marina Del Ray
Jericho Terrace
Russo's on the Bay
The Fountainhead
Glen Island Harbor Club
Hyatt Regency Jersey City
Venetian Yacht Club

Any info you have will be greatly appreciated!

Congratulations!!
I've been to some really great weddings at the Swan Club and Woodbury Country Club. Not sure of the prices though.
I agree with the other girls that a Saturday night is very tough to find for that price. My mom worked for Villa Lombardi's years ago (selling weddings!) and said you could get great deals at any hall if you book in under 6 or 8 months, the catering place is usually eager to fill any 'open dates' . That might be how you can get your Saturday night wedding..
I've been to Sunday night weddings and they were just beautiful, so thats still a great secondary option.

Not sure but i think VYC willbe pricey even on a Sunday. Jericho Terrace should be ok & definitely Chateu La Mer.

Many of these are GREAT halls but most of these will not be under $100 pp. yes at JT they have smaller rooms for less money, but for 400 guests you have no choice but to use their skylight room and it is quite a bit above $100pp and especially during the summer, the starting price before any extras or anything for the skylight room is a bit more than that. The problem is with the 400 guests, usually its the biggest room of theirs and for the biggest room they like to book it at a certain price, and can be higher than the other rooms.

Russo's on the bay also expensive for saturday in the summer and even sunday will be higher for sunday

Marina del rey and also glen island are also both pretty pricey and even on sundays in the summer, it still will cost a decent amount.

CLM will not fit 400 guests

not sure how many ppl VYC could fit but someone posted that they booked VYC in july for $115pp and i remember others actually posting the same price for summertime at VYC

i also agree to try leonards, they have a room downstairs that can accomodate that many guests plus the price will be better than many other places.

The only place on the list that I've had experience with is VYC, and it's pretty expensive. I was quoted $128 with Viennese for a Sat night in November (smaller room), and $100 for the Sunday after, without Viennese. I can only imagine what the pricing would be in peak season.

I went to Crest Hollow on Saturday night and met with one of the Banquet Managers. The price was good but he did not tell us the available dates yet. Only until we are ready to book, then he'll reveal that. Is that common practice??

I really like the idea of having the cocktail by the pool area. Are there any other RH with setups like that?

Next weekend FH and I plan on visiting a ton more RH.

Thanks!

Congrats and welcome to planning. I dont know many halls that can hold that many people but I'm sure the girls on here do

Congrats! I know someone mentioned the Riviera but my mother looked into for me (my parents actually got married there 35 years ago) and they only hold up to 200 people. I know Harbor Links in Roslyn is around $95 on a Saturday night and Bridgeview Yacht Club is the same. I'm not sure how many people their rooms hold though. Also, not to freak you out but if you want July or August you need to look immediately. The places I looked at 2 weeks ago didn't have too many dates available in those months and even September was completely booked so I had to go with October. Good luck!
