So FH and I were planning a minimoon to boston for right after our wedding. Well, we got some bad news that a friend of ours who was getting married in the city in may had to move the wedding to march and to boston because his mom was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer. So we are going to be spending a weekend in boston for his wedding and don't want to go there for our minmoon. We were thinking Block Island but haven't been able to find great accomodatons for us, and are now thinking Newport RI. Have any of you been there? Anyone have any hotels they know of? help! Any other suggestions of minimoon locations would great too!

Re: Newport RI?
I went to college in Rhode Island and can honestly say that newport is one of the most beautiful places on earth. My FH has a place there and everywhere you go i promise you there is something to do. I would say look into the Bed and Breakfasts there becuase they would be the most affordable. There's tons of resturaunts and bars there and so much history. The Mansions are breathtaking.

Re: Newport RI?
I've been there twice, but for daytrips, never overnight. So I can't help with hotels....but I know that they are MAD expensive. Like at least 300-350/night. The most affordable option will be the Marriot (Or maybe it's a Hilton?) when you first get into town, but even that's like high 200s/night, depending on season. When it was a pipe dream of mine that we may be able to stay, I researched, and this was a few years ago, so I can only imagine prices went up.
But other than it being pricey, it's such an awesome place. The shops are quaint, and there's lots of great restaurants and bars. During the day, there's beaches, mansions, a really cool lighthouse that's cut into the cliff, etc. Overall it's definitely a pricey place, but for a weekend shouldn't be too bad.

I don't know much about Newport, but we actually bought my sister and her FH a minimoon in Mystic, CT for their wedding. It is so cute and there is tons of stuff to do there. Just a thought!

Lauren, my mom went to college there, and LOVES it still! She goes there on short vacays whenever she can. I'll find out some BnB info for you! I do know that it is a little pricey but beautiful, quaint, peaceful, etc. I'll get back to you later or tomorrow!

Re: Newport RI?
Newport RI is my fav place on earth!!!!!!!!! I usually stay at Hotel Viking....but honestly its a little stuffy. I think you should look into some of the B&B's on Bellevue Avenue or close to it... thats pretty much the main street and you could walk to most places its kinda hard to park there...lots of traffic and metered parking.
This is a great site to see whats going on the week you are there. www.gonewport.com

Re: Newport RI?
I was born and raised in Rhode Island....I've only been a New Yorker for 5 years.....Newport is amazing and their restaurants are great. I can't recommend a hotel because I used to live their and never stayed at any of them. You really should go there.......you would enjoy it!!

We stayed at the Hotel Viking once and thought it was really beautiful and historic - it is right near all the mansions....pricy during the season though

Re: Newport RI?
Summer there is tough, its a popular destination. We stayed across the bridge in Naraggansett for a wedding last year at a dumpy motel and it was $390 for two nights. I go there with my family a lot but stay on the boat. But I e-mailed my friend for the name of the place we stayed once in Newport that was really nice, but it was winter.
I will fm you if I get the info.

Re: Newport RI?
newport is fantastic... we had an awesome time when we were there. since you're going in summertime it's going to be very expensive- if you decide to go there book asap! the hotels book very quickly! i would also recommend montauk- we LOVE it out there... there is so much to do... you can get a decent room across the street from the ocean at the born free. we have stayed there numerous times and have had a BLAST!!!
