news about marriage license (for those living in NYC...)

for those living in NYC but getting married in LI, talk to your priest!!!

we had a meeting with our priest yesterday and he told us to bring in the marriage license the day of our rehearsal...but he told us that he would not accept a marriage license from NYC

not sure if its a preference or a rule...but apparently NYC files the licenses differently....so he wants our license to say NYS (which everywhere else will give you)...instead of a NYC license (which is what he said you get in the city)

i never heard of this before...and FH and I planned on going to brooklyn for the license, so i was glad he told us in advance

just wanted to mention it to you girls...it might not be an issue with your priest/church...but its worth asking about ....

But this is only if you're getting married on LI, right? Our ceremony is in Queens, so we should be good... right?

I think we were told the same thing, thats y we are going to the queens court to get it so it says NYS

so did i ....he said that the NYC license says NYCITY on it...not sure if its true or what...but apparently its an issue with the church

yeah - barb - i doubt its in the bible i dont care much tho...less lines in LI anyway


oh, and ifyour church is in queens, no biggie. that is nyc. no issues there!

queens is anything u want it to be when in an argument. queens is on LONG ISLAND.. but its also a boro...

So there is no other reason than that instead of NYS it says NYCITY? thats effing lame....

Exactly!! That's why I'm cheacking! When I think NYC, I think Manhattan, I don't consider Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn part of NYC. But as long as my church does, we're cool.

hmm interesting. i was planning on going to Nassau anyway but thats odd. i was already confused as to where i should get it since i live in Queens but getting married in LI so this is definatley more confusing info put out there. if its just a preference, i dont think he should be allowed to set his owns rules for that. seems weird.

They are technically NYC... Queens is connected to Long Island but its not part of LI...

hmmm, I went to the one in Queens, and we were told it was valid anywhere in New York State for 60 days

But I think that the minister does not want to say that he married you in NYC if your wedding was in fact on LI, which is not a part of NYC. I heard of this but I didn't think much of it since I was going to get my licence in Nassau anyways..
