for those living in NYC but getting married in LI, talk to your priest!!!
we had a meeting with our priest yesterday and he told us to bring in the marriage license the day of our rehearsal...but he told us that he would not accept a marriage license from NYC
not sure if its a preference or a rule...but apparently NYC files the licenses differently....so he wants our license to say NYS (which everywhere else will give you)...instead of a NYC license (which is what he said you get in the city)
i never heard of this before...and FH and I planned on going to brooklyn for the license, so i was glad he told us in advance
just wanted to mention it to you girls...it might not be an issue with your priest/church...but its worth asking about ....

i *might* be wrong about this but i just applied for a marriage license online yesterday and i do remember seeing that a NYC license is a few dollars cheaper than a NY state license.... so i guess it is different?
EDIT: found it! check it out: Getting Married in NY State The only difference I see is that NYC is $5 cheaper...

This doesn't make sense, you can get a marriage license anywhere in NY state and then use it to get married anywhere in NY state. I don't think he really has the authority to say where you can get your marriage license, the state makes those rules. I think he is overstepping a bit...
I am planning to go in Queens, where I live, because I have no idea where my birth certificate is and you only need a driver's license there.

Exactly!! That's why I'm cheacking! When I think NYC, I think Manhattan, I don't consider Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn part of NYC. But as long as my church does, we're cool.
They are technically NYC... Queens is connected to Long Island but its not part of LI...

It might be a jurisdiction thing. Kinf od like how state troopers are everywhere in the state except NYC. If you have NYC license, it may apply ONLY to ceremonies conducted in NYC< wheras a state license would allow a wedding anyhwhere in the state

I just emailed Father Tom McCormick, who's marrying us and he said I can get the license here in Staten Island for my wedding in Long Island and there would be no problems...
