This is going to sound VERY cold and heartless.. I’m sorry, but it’s how I feel.
So I’m watching the news last night and they say this kid got killed with horseplay went to far on the C line. So I faithfully waited for the news. The kid was ‘surfing the subway’. Uhm, what?
I saw this stricken kids all overly excited and hysterical about this kid who was just ‘there and the train didn’t stop” cry, whine, hysterics.
Please.
This idiot kid climbed up on top of a subway car and was riding on top of it when his head hit a beam and he was knocked in between the cars. Ok can we say STUPID? That should be a submission for the Darwin award.
It’s very hard for me to be sympathetic for this kid. His parents must feel like crap and it does hurt to lose a child but this kid was plain stupid. I mean Gee, let’s try something really dangerous and deadly for fun. This was like the middle of the night. Where are the parents? Who in god’s name raises a child to be this reckless?
I see these stories and think a few things.
A) Don’t waste my time with these stories about stupid people paying for the idiot acts B) What ever happened to parenting C) Bet you my bottom dollar the parents sue for attractive nuisance claim over this. How the MTA should have prevented this.
BAH.. sorry I just find this stuff annoying!

I think when people take risks like this, they are asking for it. I sort of feel the same way about extreme sports. You have to know that there is a chance you will get seriously injured or end up dead.

Agreed. They said he did it on a dare. Ridiculous and stupid. It's unfortunate that kids will do anything knowing it's dangerous. If it were my kid, I'd be distraught, but at the same time embarrassed.

I heard on the news this morning that the MTA said if the kid's friend, who knew he got hit by the beam, had told someone that the kid was on the tracks, they might have been able to prevent him getting hit by the second train.
But that's beside the point - I also heard people saying, oh, he was a smart kid. Why wasn't he taught that at 14 you should not be taking your life into your own hands?
The saddest thing of all is FH has a little brother who would do this, because there is just no getting through to him...

It happened in the afternoon when school ended.
The trains were messed up for a while.
I agree pure stupidity.
What was he thinking. OH i'll just surf the train and look cool. Um hello real cool that your dead.
I am sorry if I sound cold, but I am so scared of the trains. I freak out when I see people walking between cars. On the platform I stand in the middle away from the edge. Train tracks and platforms are not for horseplay. You want horseplay go to a park.
I think what scared me was when i was 7, my friends mom is a nurse and said to us you see that 3rd rail well if you touch it you fry. Your own parents wont recognize the charcoaled body. The tracks are not for games. You die.
Yea tell that to a 7 year old...But ever since it has stuck with me and till this day i am utterly petrified of the platforms and tracks.

I agree too. Of course my heart goes out to the kid's family, but... 'You get what you pay for', so to speak...

Its like you can almost imagine God saying to this kid “train surfing?” I mean.. “what?”
What’s worse is those other kids saw the whole thing. Froze in shock I’m sure. They have to live the rest of their life with that image burned into their minds. From personal experience, that is some heavy weight to carry.
You can only HOPE that they have a better understanding of life now.
Maybe one life saved others?

I saw an interview with a student who went to the same school. she said this is something the freshman are into...it scares me to think that I could be riding a train with some half-witted 14 year old playing with his life right above me

I believe so. The A and C trains were running on the F line and I dont know if the F train was even running.

I take the F train at 34th street and get off at Delancy. Their was an announcemet that said due to police activity the A and C train are running on the F line to Jay Street then its the A to where ever and the C to where ever.
I didnt really think much of it till i saw the news last night

Xelindrya, I comletely agree with you. they also mentioned that the kid was ' super smart' and a computer wiz. For god's sake he jumped the subway train on a dare?!!!!? Smart?
His poor mother! She collapsed apon hearing the news! there is an article in today's paper! Poor woman!

Unfortunately this stuff is pretty common only is doensn't always make the news. There are incidents like this all the time. The conductors always say it's an power outage or something like that so as not to alarm the passengers. FH & several of his friends all work for the MTA so I hear lots of stories about crap like this. Sorry that kid was just dumb for taking a dare like that.

Actually it doesnt scare me, it annoys me.
Im sorry.. this will sound cold.
But could you PLEASE not commit suicide while I’m trying to get from Point A to B and mess up my commute? I mean it would be one thing if you were mentally deranged, but these folks are just stupid. I’m going to be late to work, home or other appts cause some kid wants to play with death. ANNOYING. Go find a bridge and see if you can bounce off the bottom and make it back up unharmed, it’s just about as idiotic.
