so how does one have a brunch and pay for some but not all? the hotel offers vouchers to give to the guests (paid already of course) but what happens when other people want to join for bfast?
my dad wants only wants to pay for 6 of us (my side of the family) and hes wondering about FH's side b/c they most likely are going to join us too.
My rents are paying for hall and FH's are doing the RD so my dad was saying he doesn't want to hear any comments being made as to why they have to pay for the RD and he's not paying for the brunch.
oy.

Can both sets of parents agree to split it as a way to end the celebration on a high note?

it's worth a shot but i doubt it'll work like that. they're not really helping with anything

Do you really think your FILs will say something given that your parents are paying for the hall which is WAY more money?? That would be crazy!

Can FH speak to his parents? And remind them that the RH is more expensive than the RD and he'd like them to pay?

Hmm - this *****.
I would def have FH tell his parents that if they want to join, it's $20/pp or whatever. Just lay it out there so no awkward convos need to be had between the parents.

I think if someone wants to come and doesn't have a voucher, then should pay their own way. Luckily, we'll be boarding a ship the day after so everyone is sool on putting me in the middle of that situation.
Hang in there!! The good part is...you'll be MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!

it sounds like its not alot of people... 6 in your fam and how many in his? if thats the case, let you rents pick up the 6 they want... everyone will pretty much just pay their own way then, no?

Can you just give the 6 vouchers out and then have whoever wants to join pay their own way (b/c obviously they won' t have a voucher).... otherwise maybe you can casually mention to your in laws that your father had bought vouchers for some people on your side of the family, and if they'd be interested in buying vouchers for their side, here is the info.. (this way it kind of puts it out there without saying 'hi, pay for your guests.') ... good luck!! i hope it works out.

Re: next day Brunch dilema.......
Honestly, if the hotel gives vouchers for the paying guest, and someone else wants to join, than they should pay for the meal. How much is it going to be $20???
I'm sorry but sounds to me that a lot of money is being laid out, and if anyone makes a comment as to why brunch was pd for than thats rude.
All the weddings we've been too, and if the brunch was held in a hotel, regardless if the breakfast was included or not, we didn't mind paying.
Don't worry chica! i don't think neone will comment...

ehhhh i dont agree with u ladies.. not that i read all posts or anything.
but how could u hold a brunch and make half the people pay??? honestly... i would ask the hotel to 'keep the vouchers' and just have a spread of the food that they wouldve served those people as a buffet.. then can you go to a bagel store and get 2 doz bagels some cream cheese and whatever else u want..
so its a buffet type thing. its aweful if u make half the ppl pay..cuz as a guest.. if i attended an affair and mary was comped and i had to pay that would make me feel like shyt.
and shouldnt the ppl stayign in the hotel be the only ones attending brunch?????

yes but you're talking about a stubborn Jewish man .
he hates the fact that FH's parents aren't helping out (he's very old school) so he doesn't feel he has to pay for them for brunch (plus on FH's end there's about 25-30 people). he's taking care of his 6 people and end of story.
i understand where he's coming from but it's a sticky situation.
i think i'm going to mention about the vouchers to FH's family.
thank you

Re: next day Brunch dilema.......
I say anyone extra should have to pay for themselves. And if your parents want to pay for particular people, they can just do it discretely, and not necessarily as a 'we're paying for the brunch' kinda thing but more of an 'we'd like to personally take care of your meal' thing

Re: next day Brunch dilema.......
is this like an advertised event part of your wedding weekend?
if not, just keep it casual and let it be spread by word of mouth that anyone who is interested can join for breakfast.
anyone else can pay for themselves.

def. not advertised. we're just afraid that when people ask like what time for breakfast and everyone shows up what happens with the bill? my dad doesn't want to be handed one nor does he want people to show up thinking he's paying for it

Re: next day Brunch dilema.......
Maybe you should ask FH's family to pay for it. Yes they are paying for the RD, but your Reception Hall costs wayyy more than the RD, so your parents are spending more in the end. Just ask FH to ask his parents and tell them that your dad is paying for 6 people already and because he is paying for the RH, he really doesn't have the extra money to pay for the entire brunch.

Re: next day Brunch dilema.......
can you ask the place you are brunchin at to give people their own bills? i know its not the best solution. but its something. people cant NOT agree to pay for what they just ate.
...i would just tell ppl its a pay-your-own-way-but-join-us-for-brunch type of thing...
