I need some ideas of other things that can be done instead of the garter and bo-k toss. Any fun ideas??

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
I also feel that this tradition is becoming uncomfortable for most people, plus it takes away from a lot of dancing time. Unless you are both entertainers it is boring. My mom and sister are upset that we aren't doing it, but oh well others are thanking me!
We are doing the Anniversary dance, but I know who will win so we are bringing two gifts (probably champagne and flowers which will help decorate the head table for awhile!).

Does the bride and groom dance along with others for the anniversary dance?
No, you basically would watch.
You have all the married couples (you can do all couples if you want) come up and dance, and then they count down years.....people who are married less then 1 year sit, 5 years, 10 years and so on until the last couple standing has been together the longest amount of years-then you would give them the bok & garter if you wish, a friend of mine gave them her bok and a gift-I think it was a frame
Okay...I have a better idea now. thanks

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
I think I know who will be the last couple standing at the end of the anniversary dance and neither of them drink any alcohol, so I think that a picture frame would e perfect!

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
i didn't do either.
for the bok toss - i gave single roses to the single women in my life (we had less than 10 at the wedding). i preferred to make it classy than have them all jump for a frickin' boquet...i kinda don't like that tradition...
ETA: i gave a duplicate of my boquet to a close friend of mine who was the next to get married...it was a tradition started by my MOH at her wedding...she passed ME her boquet...

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
we did the toss but instead of making them put the garter on whoever caught the bo-k we gave a prize to that person!

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
I love all these ideas - I agree with most of you that the tradition is uncomfortable for most people. I saw a wedding where the DJ went on and on for like 20 minutes embarrassing the man (I should say Boy- he was sooo young) and lady who caught the garter/bo-k and I knew I def didn't want that.
The only problem with doing the anniversary dance is that all the girls in my BP are unmarried. Would they be upset about not getting to jump for the bo-k? Any ideas on how to incorporate another tradition for the single ladies too? Maybe give the bo-k to oldest couple and individual roses to the single women?

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
I was thinking about also doing something for my parents since the week of our wedding is also their 30th anniversary. Any ideas on incorporating that into the anniversary dance?

i'm just giving mine to my mom. i'm not too keen on people killing each other for flowers or men scrambling after something that is essentially a piece of my underwear.
Lol! Well put..

Re: No Garter or Bok toss????
I went to a wedding where the bride gave her BO-K to her mom (after she made a small speech of her gratitude). I thought is was great that mom was recognized. I'm thinking about doing that as well, I'm just afraid of not being able to keep my tears at bay.
