Hello everyone, I have been lurking around here for a week and think I should introduce myself! I got engaged last Tuesday and have basically no idea what I am doing! I am looking for a RH that is elegant. My FH and I are bagpipe and kilt people and don’t want an over the top venue. Something with a nice ball room that can hold about 200 or so people. Any suggestions/price information you could share would be GREAT. We are thinking March(ish) of 2011 but are flexible as we would like to keep it as cost friendly as possible (under 85pp) while still giving our guests a great time and great food. Some places I think I like include Old Field and Three Village Inn.

First off, congratulations!!!!
I was in the same spot with your budget for the recpetion hall. I ended up booking with the Douglaston Manor on the Queens Nassau border. It's not an over the top place, but is a gorgeous venue! They charge about $75 pp.
Let me know if you want any other info. Good luck!

Congrats! My first piece of advice would be to check out this link and this link.
These will help you narrow down your choices by maximum capacity, cuisine, and price.
Then, start making phone calls

Congrats and welcome!!!
Old Field Club holds a max of about 160-170 people, so it would probably be too small for what you're looking for. You should check out Milleridge Cottage.

Welcome & Congrats!
Defintely check out the Swan Club & Westbury Manor. Both can be extremely flexible w/prices around that time of year; and both can hold the amount of guests you're having

Congratulations!! Milleridge Cottage should definitely be in your pricerange for that time of year. And they can fit you. The entire ballroom is hardwood flooring, so the dancefloor can expand and contract based on your number of guests. I think they can hold well over 300!

Congrats and welcome! Definitely check out the links and ideas from everyone! I do know that George Washington Manor only holds 150 in their big room, but they also do off site catering. Talk to Lila there if you are interested, she's been so nice and helpful! Also you can look at the Metropolitan in Glen Cove for that type of look.
