I have had it both ways. I decided that I wanted my BM to choose the dresses since I wanted them to love the dress!
I know in the past when I was a bridesmaid I have told my friends that I will wear anything they want me to because I am there for them. I would joke around with them that if they put me in yellow I would look green because of my complextion but if they are ok with a green bridesmaid I am ok with it! Ha ha

Re: No input for BM dresses?
That is rough, but honestly, I have had quite a few dresses I have hated wearing as a BM and I just ****** up and wore it. I never said anything because I felt if this is what my friend wanted for her special day, I will just wear it. Personally, though, I am letting my girls pick their dresses so they feel comfortable in it.

I've also had it both ways... I've had some pretty HORRIBLE bm dresses... one had velvet stars lol
While my girls can choose the dress, Im not giving them a color choice, they must wear hot pink.

Re: No input for BM dresses?
I think as a courtesy to the BMs the bride should ask their opinions about the dresses! Plus, it has a benefit for the bride-the BMs know their bodies and know what will look good on them (ie. better pictures!) I am in a wedding this summer and the bride is a size 4 yoga instructor, so she just picked some styles she liked, without thinking about how some of us might feel and look in that style. She sent me a picture of a sweetheart strapless mini dress and I thought 'I will look like a fat prostitute in that!' I let her know I wasn't comfortable in strapless and she ended up picking a line from J Crew that had a few styles in it, so everyone is happy.
I only have two BMs and I picked two different complimentary dresses that I knew each of them would love. I want them to be comfortable and happy.

I can see it both ways. If the bride wants BM's to wear a certain dress then she doesn't need their opinion. It totally depends on the person.

Re: No input for BM dresses?
As someone who had been in several weddings where the BMs were given choices of what dresses it seems like when that happens the bride gets stressed because she cant make everyone happy. Just pick what you want and your BM will suck it up and wear it because they love you ... just like you will do for you FSIL

Re: No input for BM dresses?
I don't think anyone ever asked my opinion when I was a bridesmaid. Some dresses were nice and some were awful. In the end you grin and bear it and wear the dress. However I'm not doing this to my girls. Its something I personally feel really strongly about. When your out and you look nice and you feel beautiful you will have a better time. I have been stuck wearing some dresses that were so ugly and fit weird on me and it definitely hindered the fun of the evening. But if she really wants you to wear the dress just wear it and if its that bad stick her with an even uglier dress as revenge. lol just kidding 0=)

Re: No input for BM dresses?
She just may have an over all vision of how she wants everyone to look and thats it, regardless of who's actually wearing or how comfy they are. I'm sorry youre going through this!

Re: No input for BM dresses?
I plan on going with whoever wants to come, and making it a collaborative effort.I know what color and material I want, other than that I want them to be comfortable. My MOH doesn't want strapless cause she has EE's! so we're going to do either halter or a strap.

Yeah, I'm just going to suck it up..*sigh* I also found out that she wants us to buy shoes and have them dyed the same color as the dress...ugh. Looks like I'm buying cheapo payless shoes!

Re: No input for BM dresses?
I've had it both ways, where I had input and was just told what to wear. I'm only bringing my sister (MOH) with me to shop for BM dresses. I want her to look good so I want her opinion.

too many cooks spoil the pot. Especially with a big bridal party, its very hard to find one dress everybody loves, so it usually ends up being a compromise and nobody loves it, including the bride.

no matter how 'bad' you look (and I'm sure you'll look great) nobody will think to themselves 'wow, that bridesmaid looks terrible!' they'll think 'wow that bride picked a terrible bridesmaid dress'
I think every woman in the world has sympathy for bridesmaids in ugly dresses. lol. and the pictures will give you a good laugh later.

Re: No input for BM dresses?
sticky situtaion, i wouldnt bring anything up unless she asks you. i too have had the brides that make a whole day of it with the BM's picking the dress that everyone agree's on and ive had brides do the same thing, sent and email and said 'here's the dres they sell at this store and the color is pink' i guess it all depends on the bride. stinks that you are so unhappy with it but i guess thats just one of those risks w/ being a BM you sometimes get yourself into some ugly dresses lol
im sure you'll still rock it out tho!
