Posted by Xelindrya I love the time of lent. I get as much steak and red meat as I want and savor ever bite and most places that serve meat are slow.
Riiiight, it's only on Friday's. It's not like the other 6 days we can't have meat
Yes but on Fridays Jim & I can get to Outback with less of a wait.. DEFINATELY a plus.
You didn't say 'On Friday's I take advantage of eating red meat.' You said 'I love lent because I can eat as much red meat as I want.'

HRmm Im confusing myself here, I think. Let me rephrase:
Yes. I take advantage of eating meat on Fridays during lent. It's not to say i don't eat it other days but actually YES i eat it less often on any given month than I do during lent. Why? The wait. Good steak places usually have long waits Peter Lugers, etc. So instead I usually go for italian (which I love) because its not as bad. Then lent comes around and all the steak places lighten up a bit (only a bit cause I cant be the ONLY one to have thought this through).
So yes I love lent because I get more red meat. I don't sit and gorge on blood stumps of hide, but yeah I get to eat more meat. I am a girl who likes her meat med rare.. red juices and pink. But I guess that has nothing to do with this. It's just that i love a good steak. Mouth watering , perfectly spiced steak. Lent means on Fridays people don't go, so in turn I like lent cause I get more steak. Even during lent people eat steak during the week which means we usually don't, the crowds the wait..blah. It's that lent fridays I look forward to.
I think I just went in circles around myself on that one. haha I need to go eat! No meat though.. seems like pasta is in my future for now.
I should stop.
One last statement (i think) to wrap it up.
Im not Catholic and places are easier to get in to eat on Lent Fridays and for me that's grand.

I mean it.. if this 'bothered' you.. tell me why. I really don't understand. It's like if I said that I get as much asparagus as I can when it's in season (and i do) because i love to sink my teeth in the tender buttery juicy tops and savor each bite. (which I do)
But.. since you left a '.......' I assume it did distrub you.
Sorry it was not my intent. For those Veggies out there, that may have grossed you out too. Sorry but most Veggies i know respect us Carnivores (as my friend calls me) for our own preferences as much as I respect them for theres.
So apology stated. I wont talk about eating meat on Lent Fridays but really why does it bother you?

Me too. Which I felt was childish and immature. In any case. I like meat just as much as you do. I just practice my religion and for lack of a better word abstain from eating it 9 days a year.

Besides, it's not that you don't GET to..you choose NOT to, to show respect to your religious beliefs and honor the time of contemplation (as I learned here on LIW). No matter what I say I've always believe the whole concept of lent was individual and religious in nature.
Hey, if you want to eat steak there's really nothing stopping you but your choice to follow a spiritual practice. For that, you should be proud and I applaud you. But at the same time it doesn't mean I can't take advantage of it. And by doing so I shouldnt be looked at as a 'Sinner' or a Catholic hater.

It is bothersome because you blatantly said lent... which IMO was rude and inconsiderate and a total lack of repect I also don't think it was an accident that you stated it that way you always like to make a display of you beliefs!

I must be losing it cause THIS is confusing.. You think Im wrong when I say I can't be the only one to think this through...
Which means I CAN be the only one.
WHOOHOOO! go me!
Now lets all go have pasta and fight over who gets the fresh grated cheese!

I think you're reading far too much into what X said.
I also think that she's as entitled to 'make a display' of her beliefs as you are - and you are frequently stating that you are entitled to your opinion, are you not?
Could you all unbunch your panties a wee bit?

No one is saying you are a sinner but you deliberately made rude remark about eating meat at lent (YOUR FAVORITE TIME) That is what the issue is !Q

But it IS lent. I mean I could lie and say 'We just happen to visit more places for steak these days, don't know why' That's hypocritical.
It's RUDE? to say that I recongize the religious act of lent by using it to my advantage and in turn helping keep businesses open?
Lack of Respect? I just said I applauded the act. As a matter of fact I think I explained it nicely that it's your CHOICE. I respect your Choice.. my CHOICE is to eat the meat you wont on the days you choose not to.
PS: JUST CURIOUS - (God knows this will probably be taken wrong but oh well im already in it) Does Chicken fall into the catagory of lent no meat? I know fish doesnt but does Foul (birds) qualify as well?

TMI on the panty thing.
I think we all know that it's Lent. I think that she stated that she eats red meat on Lent because the topic of Lent came up. (I also do not presume to speak for Ronie, so if I'm wrong, she'll tell me.) I think that sometimes people take things personally and are offended by things that are not meant to be taken that way.
Why don't you all just chalk it up to a potential miscommunication or misunderstanding and get past it? Why must everything be so controversial when it's been clearly stated that no offense was meant?
