So recently I went to the nail salon and my nails were in such bad shape that they told me i couldnt use the acrylic anymore and that i should just do a gel manicure on my own nails to help them grow and get stronger. well that didnt work either. so right now there is nothing on my nails and i am such a bad nail biter! my nails are so short and paper thin right now! any tips or secret to make my nails grow fast and look nice? i will try anything! FH says my hands look like 'truck driver' hands. I am so embarrassed but i cant cut the habit! i was hiding my hands all day today.

yeah i would stay away from fake nails...in the meantime just always have nail polish on them bc it hardens the nail a bit and try nailtique.

I hate having nails and never grow them but when I was younger I tried nailtiques and it worked!!! Its the only thing that ever worked.

If you can use the heavy stuff for your nails go to CVS or Walgreens and get the fake full nails they sell. They will only stay on for about 5 days but they come off easily so they dont break your nails. Of course you have to do them yourself. Im a horrible nail biter and this worked for me, now I get them done but not until after I got my nails a little stronger

that sounds good but i do so much at work that they will probably only last me 1 hour.

that sounds good but i do so much at work that they will probably only last me 1 hour.
I would stay away even from glue or anything like that on your nails.

I am a nailbiter and have always been a nailbiter. When I went to Vegas with FH over labor day weekend we were in the pool and he saw how truly nasty my fingers were (I bite my skin too, and it really showed when my fingers got wet).
I went cold-turkey and haven't bitten since! (I've 'quit' before but always reverted after a little while due to nails breaking, etc)
Things that have helped me: - ALWAYS keep a nail file with you at all times. buy a bunch and stash them at your desk, in your purse, your car, etc. my nails would get nicks easily and then I'd pick and them and eventually bite, so better to smooth it out immediately before it gets worse
- keep polish on! it made my nails stronger and for some reason made me less likely to bite
- try to think about how gross your nails will be otherwise
- try not to get tips, it weakens your nails!
- try to keep them out of your mouth, even if it means chewing on other things.

Nailtiques works well but its expensive..i tried Sally Hansens Advanced Hard as Nails and that worked just as well. Also, take prenatal vitamins. Youre hair and nails will grow fast!

Yeah they are so bad for your nails. I just had them put back on because I want to have them until the wedding and then after that they are coming off. My nails are so weak after I take them off.

Marissa, I went 8 months with no nails right after my engagement. It stunk. but I let them get healithy and this past week I have put them back on! I would get some kind of bnitter polish- and really pay attention to no bitting them. Keep gum around you and drink lots of water and eat jello to enhance nail stregnth Good Luck

awww I hear ya ~ I would go for a manicure once a week and then use nailtique you will see a difference...plus if you get manicures you might not want to bite them!

I hate not having my nails on because I am the HUGEST nail biter. I have to take them off soon to so they can breath alittle. I'd keep a clear polish on at all times.

There is a product called Nail Optimizer, it is a miracle worker. I used to be a manicurist so I have tried many products. I would get this and get a manicure evry week. It will help our nails grow and keeping up with your manicure will help the growth and help you stop biting.

Believe it or not when i took my nails off, I started to use some Sally Hansen nail hardner....its in a green bottle. I got it at CVS and It worked wonders!!!

Take calcium and vitamin E and when you can tap your fingers like you're drumming them on the table. Don't tap your nails because it weakens them, but tap the tips of your fingers. The blood circulating doing this helps them grow.

try rejuvacote- polish once daily- they get really strong & it tastes awful so you wont bite them

there is this stuff from the mall, its a 4 sided nail file, and it works WONDERS!! it has a grey, white, and 2 black sides, and I swear it will make the worst nails look shiny and great ... I use it everytime i get my nails taken off, it takes away that bump and makes them heal quicker .. I'll have to get the name of it when I get home, ill FM u later!
