NO MORE WLIR

Letter regarding the end of WLIR

I've been listening to WLIR from when Larry the Duck and Steve 'the pistol' Jones were doing the morning show in 1986. I listened when it was WDRE and changed back to LIR.

I hope The Box is as good, but somehow I doubt it.

same here - and I live in NJ and was waiting for my DH in the car - and happened to see if I could get it in - I figured I couldn't bc I heard Spanish music! Oh well....that stinks. I loved DRE and LIR - they were the only places you could hear good songs way before they were popular on stations such as Z100 and WPLJ. And I also like catching the obscure songs that no one else would play!!

I live in the Bronx and 107.1 (the box) isn't even the box. It's (and why I don't know) K-104 in Westchester/Hudson Valley.

bizarre.

Too bad, I mean how many 'we play the hits of yesteday and today' type stations are out there? Lets see, WPLJ, KJOY, 106.7, and now 102.7

They were the newest station. You'd think somoene would go 'hmmmm let me fill in the gap that we'd lose with losing LIR' But nooo.

Sucky.

107.1 is a frequency used by three different towers in the Tri-state area. One is in Westchester, another in NJ, and another in Eastern Suffolk county. Often times, to increase their coverage area, a station will buy a second transmitter and frequency to simulcast their programming. That's why WLIR broadcast on both 92.7 and 107.1. And that's why K-104 Broadcasts on 104.7 and 107.1. When 107 was a country station, the company owned all three 107 towers, but they sold them off after running the station into the ground.

OMG that's right 107.1 used to be the country station! I could get it a little bit if I drove upstate. Now....no new wave and no country.
(boy what a combo)

At least I still have 104.3 (even though the Radio Chick is gone....)
