No professional photography?

Original post by SeaMaiden

My family does not understand the need for professional photography. I am very budget conscious but i still think its important to have a photographer to at least know that the special moments will be captured.

Both FH parents and mine think that we should just have family members use their own digital cameras and maybe have disposable cameras for the guests. They say they NEVER look at their albums and nor do their children so whats the point. Was this more common to do 10 years ago? Is this a waste of money??

If I thought that we could pull off taking our own pictures I totally would but it dosent seem practical to me to spend all this $$$ on a wedding and not have really good memories.

I completely agree that a lot of these things can be a waste. But don't forget you will want professional photos taken. I HIGHLY recommend 12th night. They are very reasonable and you do not have to buy anything from them that you don't want. You pay for what you want. Definitely check them out!

i am SOOOOOOOOOO big on pictures. i am such a strong believer of capturing the important moments, ESPECIALLY your wedding.

the photographer was probably our most important consideration. i LOVE our photographer.

i think you should really think about it. just b/c other people don't look at their wedding albums, doesn't mean you won't. and the worst thing would be to regret not having that for the rest of your lives.

your families will catch your day when they get a chance between dinner and dancing. a professional photographer is capturing your entire experience from start to finish.

don't save money now and then regret it for the rest of your lives.

Pictures can be inexpensive without getting albums. You can just order a few misc. pics in different sizes. Pictures are very important to FH and I, however to save money we are skipping out on the videographer. We don't feel that we would watch the video as much as we would look at pictures. I'm just speaking from experience. It may sound corny but I still look at my sweet 16 album and I think I've watched the video a total of three times (pics and video were taken by family).

If you're going to splurge on anything, PLEASE make it photography.

I agree. I'm being cheap about everything else but I'm not skimping on photos, especially since we're not doing a video. If anything, SKIP the video. I look at my parents and sisters wedding albums all the time but never their videos.
