I went to a wedding this past weekend, and the couple didn't give favors. I alwasy thought you should give favors. i wanted to know how many of you are having favors, and how many are not. I think that Favors are great, BUT, it could save me $1000. let me know.. thanks..

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
i don't at all think it's the polite thing to do. i think the fact that you are buying dinner for these people, providing an open bar, as well as dancing is your 'favor' for attending. give favors if you want, but realize it is a financial strain for many, and think of how many of your past 'favors' you plan to keep for a lifetime.
We are giving shotglasses and inside, we are puttign a scroll lettign out guests know that we madea donation in their honor to Sloan Kettering.

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
We are doing CD's I dont prefere the little useless dust collector things, and I think people expect something. We are also wrapping candies with our names on it and putting them in a bowl near the guest book

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I think that giving favors is a nice way to thank your guest for coming to celebrate your day with you. Lots of guests travel far to be with you. Besides, although your giving them food etc... they are also giving you a nice wedding gift too.
Don't mean to sound harsh, but I think it's a nice touch. I don't think that food and music being provided to them is an excuse not to give a favor 'thank you.'
Just my opinion.

'THESE PEOPLE' are your close friends and family... people who you or FI share a special bond with. It is your choice if you want to have a reception or not. 'Those people' will be giving you gifts as well. I don't want to come across as harsh or anything but your your comment sounds really bad.

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
We are, but friends have not, and a lot have given to a charity in lieu of traditional favors.

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
No favors here. We had to make room in our budget for a higher-end photographer and better menu, so we cut out the favors. It just isn't a priority for us.

Wanted to add that if, in end of booking all of our vendors, we come up with money left over, then we will do favors - probably cd's.

no, i didn't mean to sound harsh at all, and i'm sorry i came across. i am so thankful for my friends and family (and you guys!) but i think people who can't afford it are sometimes made to feel bad, when they shouldn't. guests sometimes expect it, and i think a beautiful wedding without favors is just as nice as a beautiful wedding with. sorry i came across so bad!

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I never got the whole 'favors' thing that goes on out here. It seems to be more of a status symbol. 'Look I had this really great wedding, I'm so well off I even got YOU a gift'
I just had to laugh when I read this I will never look at favors the same.
I don't think favors are necessary. I am sure I have been to weddings before that did not have them.

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I've never been to a wedding where I didn't get a favor...Regardless of whether I like the favor or not, I think it's traditional, expected. I would DEFINITELY notice if they didn't give out favors. You give goodie bags out at kids parties. Sam thing, no?

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
This is funny I can understand if thereis no money or lower budget then expected but to flat out say I am paying there dinner (YES BUT YOU INVITED THEM, AND THEY ARE GIVING YOU A GIFT!) and thats there favor well then if it were up to me as your guest I wouldnt come and not because you didnt give me a favor but that you expect me to get dressed up (possibly take the day off) give you money AND YOU SAY WELL MY dinner and dancing and open bar is there favor ? It would be cheaper to go out to dinner..Do you expect a gift ??????????
Sorry just my thought.

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I did give favors, and if I had to do it over, would give them again.
Everyone here knows a wedding is costly....DH and I paid for our wedding ALONE...all 100% and we made sure we had enough money to appropriately thank our guets. We gave full-sized wine bottles of red wine (we got married in Italy) and I think a donation is just as much a gift as any too...
My opinion is this: If you don't expect any gifts from your guests, then sure...they shouldn't expect gifts from you....but something tells me if you didn't receive one gift at your wedding, you would have something to say about it.
Did they ask to be invited to your wedding?? no...you invited them...and to say 'I'm already paying for their food, entertainment and dancing???' yes, but that's your choice - having a reception is a choice!!!
Also keep in mind, they may or may not have to take time off of work, buy something to wear, give a gift, drive or travel a great distance.....JMO, but appreciation should be shown, either by a donation or a gift.
just my $.02

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
i do think a donation is a beautiful idea. my mom died in january from lung cancer, and my fh and i would like to make donations in our guests names to a charity, but we really have to do more research to find out which one. although she died from lung cancer, there are so many cancers, that i may do a donation to sloane-kettering instead. any ideas?

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I totally agree.. I think that it is our wedding,we're inviting them. I always thought that Favors were a nice touch.. i just thought it was strange that it seemed to be fading out.. the past 3 weddings I went to didn't have favors.. So I didn't want to be tacky and have them, ya know.. I also want to throw the boquet and nobody seems to do that anymore.. WHO CARES.. MY WEDDING, MY TRADITIONS..LOL I'm having favors, and I'm throwing my damn bouquet
Hi If you want to do favors you can do candles if you go to the dollar store they have them at a great bargin, and people will remember you when they use them... you can get some pretty ribbon and wrap them up yourself, a friend iof mine did two of those long skinny candles (plain) and they were lovely, we used them to have a candle light dinner...

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
Honestly - I am doing favors but that is because I have a theme and wanted to do them. But honestly - when my parents met with the club they told them that 95% of the people DO NOT do favors and the few who do often only do donations.
I have never expected a favor and would rather be put out if someone expected to get a favor at a wedding. I have been to many weddings and have only gotten one at about 3 weddings - no offense but I am at a persons wedding to celebrate with them and think it is rude to expect them to give me something when they were already generous enough to share their day with me- if they want to give me something great BUT never expected! But honestly if the couple were strapped I would feel much better knowning they took that money I gave them to start saving for their first home than for me to get a little something to take home.

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I came very close to not doing favors. There just wasn't anything out there I really LOVED. Everything just seemed so ordinary. Like it would end up thrown in a back seat of a car, collecting dust, forgotten, or in the garbage. Needless to say, I ended up giving chocolate truffles. I bought Lindt truffles, put them in little organza bags w/ a tag and Voila! The perfect little favor all within budget!

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
Lets be honest, if you go to a wedding and you don't get a favor in this day and age on Long Island, especially, you notice. Shop around, get something to match your theme, it brings it all together and people really appreciate it. JMO

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???
I agree with the majority. I think either way. To be honest how many times have you used the gift that you got at a wedding. you can count on less than one hand. To be honest I know in my family no one is ever happy. 'All what they gave was a candle and no holder??? Only one wine glass, when am I going to use just one wine glass??? I could give a trip to Rome and it would be.. 'I have to sit coach? What do you mean no first class???'
