Original post by JZNCK

I went to a wedding this past weekend, and the couple didn't give favors. I alwasy thought you should give favors. i wanted to know how many of you are having favors, and how many are not. I think that Favors are great, BUT, it could save me $1000. let me know.. thanks..

I will be doing favors but honestly if I went to someone's wedding and they did not give me a favor, I really would not care. I never use them anyway. I think the donation is a nice thing to do, but got vetoed by the FI.

Every wedding I've been to I've received a favor. Favors were actually very important to my FI for some reason so we got something really nice that nobody will throw in the closet.

I think everyone should do what they think is right for them - there is no right or wrong here.

I've never veiwed the favor as a 'thank you'. I thought that was the purpose of the thank you card......

I can't imagine anyone going to a wedding and griping because they didn't receive a favor....... Do people really do that?!

I hate to think that my wedding will be such a hassle for people ( taking the night off, getting dressed up, etc) that a picture frame or bag of candies gonna make it all worth while for them.

I am not inviting people for the $. I think we all know by now that throwing a wedding is a losing investment! I want them there to share and celebrate with us, not for a gift, and I hope my guests feel the same way.

Bottom line, do what ever makes you happy, and whatever is important to you!

I am not giving favors. First of all, it is less common to give favors at Jewish weddings, and second of all, I find that most of the favors I get from weddings end up in the garbage or collecting dust somewhere. I think that making a donation in lieu of favors is a beautiful idea. If your guests are having a good time at your wedding, I doubt the absence of favors will be noticed.

The trouble with favors is, there's hardly any unique ones out there! Most weddings Ive been to did the candle/potpourri/candy thing, and it's just such old hat I don't even want to think about having something that everyone else has already done. I love originality - what can I say :) Anyway - we ARE having favors, BUT since FI and I won a $250 gift certificate to a bakery from the last bridal expo we went to, we are going to ask the bakery to make us little mini cakes (tiny tiny!) about the size of a golf ball as favors for our guests. I love this idea bc it's not a lot of money out of our own pockets - gotta love that! Also bc it's something that all guests can immediately enjoy - on the way home even! :) We're alo doing the CD thing with a bunch of our favorite songs, but I think the mini cake idea is the best :)

I've never been to a wedding where there were no favors. I would probably think it was a little strange if there weren't any. I think it's a nice gesture, even if it's something edible that won't go to waste.
As for donations, I think they are a wonderful idea, but personally, I would just donate the money on my own. I don't think a charity donation has anything to do with my wedding or guests - JMO.

As far as I'm concerned, the favor is NOT a thank you. You send a thank you card after the fact. That's your thank you.

We're doing a donation because 1. I didn't want to waste my money on a trinket that most people would throw away, others would not even take and I'd be left with 15 extras and 2. FH and I both feel that our money is better spent by donating to research for cures for diseases that have killed our loved ones.

If people are coming to my wedding just to get a favor, they have another thing coming! JMO

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???

Personally, I think that favores are highly over-rated! Nobody cares and most people just shove them somewhere and let them collect dust and then get rid of them a year later!

I got quite a few pictures frames iwth the names of the people I barely remember, which I donated to salvation army 2 years later!

A donation is a far better idea! Or at least something edible so you can eat it on the way home and at least enjoy it! JMO

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???

I did not mean that getting the favor would be the highlight but if you look at the prior post it said I am paying for there meal blah blah blah and i thought that kind od sounded very selfish I could careless about the favors i just respect my guest and don't want to say well my wedding is enough originally I said well thought out (Donations are wonderful) the favor is also a little keepsake I know that sounds dumb but I think that was its original purpose a memory to take home . whatever everyone is right!

Re: NO WEDDING FAVORS???

I think favors are a waste of money. For the most part at Jewish weddings we don't give them out. As a matter of fact, the only time I have seen them given was at an interfaith wedding.
