We are planning to have a non-denominational wedding. (FI is Catholic and I am Jewish and neither one of us are at all religious) We want absoloutely NO mention of religion or God whatsoever.
Has anyone been to a wedding like this before? If so, your feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know of someone besides a Justice of the Peace that will perform a ceremony like this?

Re: Non-Denominational Wedding
Hi!
I am in the same boat.. while my Fiancee share the same religion (by family default), we want a completely religion free ceremony.. I found an awesome interfaith minister named Hilda Gieco. Just because the ceremony doesnt mention god.. it doesnt mean it cant be spiritual! if you want her info I can send it.. or you could probably just google her.

Re: Non-Denominational Wedding
I went to a wedding where the bride and groom had a private wedding ceremony with immediate family beforehand (they did this in order to be legally married-I think they used a justice of the peace) and then had the kind of ceremony they wanted in front of everyone. They chose various readings and read vows they had written to each other. They also had someone sing a song during the ceremony. There was no mention of religion or G-d. Many close friends and family members read the selections and it was a really nice ceremony. I also attended another wedding ceremony that was non-denominational. A friend of the couple performed the ceremony. The ceremony also consisted of readings and vows. I really liked the ceremonies because the readings and readers added a personal touch to the ceremonies.

I'm in the exact same situation. We are using a Judge who happens to be a friend of the family for the ceremony.

Re: Non-Denominational Wedding
We also wanted a religion free wedding. I took a page out of 'Friends' and we had one of our dearest friends ordained online and registered with the city. He married us in an amazing ceremony.

Our ceremony will have no mention of the word god. We're using Rev. Deb (Ceremonies of the HEart). She is a vendor on here and is awesome! She sent us a file of what seems like a million choices for readings (some from the bible, most are not). She is open and is working with us to design a ceremony that reflects us.

Re: Non-Denominational Wedding
My MOHs wedding was non-denominational. Her ceremony was elegant and extremely touching. The ceremony was perfectly tailored to them.
She used Reverend April from the Church of Ancient Ways. April was fantastic. FM me if you want some info.

Re: Non-Denominational Wedding
I just met with April Gismondi of the CHurch of Ancient Ways last night with FH. She is really amazingly nice! She sat with us, asked us what we want, gave us some suggestions. She said she will email us by thursday what the format could look like with different ideas. I got it today! It is amazing. She is a vendor on here.

Re: Non-Denominational Wedding
My officiant is Fr. Tom McCormick, he's a vendor on this site. He can perform the ceremony in a suit and not make any mention of God or anything religious. He'll make the ceremony conform to your wishes!!! FH and I met with him and felt very comfortable, we booked on the spot!

Don't be so envious - my choice comes with the price of comments from my mother. Which I will hear for the rest of my life.

i can handle comments. comments don't bother me. what bothers me is that i wasn't given a choice in the matter--it still irks me and will continue until the mass is over. so i still am envious of those who were able to make their own choices. i still can't believe i couldn't.
