North Shore/South Shore?

Original post by nov04LIbride

I didn't grow up on Long Island so I am not sure what it all means. I was born in Smithtown, which is where all my cousins grew up, and only moved back to Long Island after college and moved to the South Shore.

So my question is, what is the North Shore/South Shore deal? On the BHB board someone said someplace with that 'North Shore feel'?

It depends on many things. Many people consider the North Shore to be more exclusive and people who have more money live there... but the South Shore has MANY rich communities. I used to work for a high end swim.pool company and I couldn't believe the homes that were in 5 Towns, Massapequa. I think the SS has more 'real people', but that's also coming from a SS Girl!

I grew up in the middle and I love the North Shore. That's where I live now.....in one of the 'seedier' areas, to borrow from another post .
There's something about the South Shore I just don't like - nothing in particular.....I like there are just certain towns down there I'm not a fan of - for no particular reason - I'm just strange

A neighborhood, IMO is only as good as the people who live there, so even GREAT towns can have run down, 'bad' areas.

although i have my own thoughts about NS/SS, i could not agree more w/ this statement.
