Nope, not us. Neither of our families do engagement parties....we just went out to dinner w/ both our parents to celebrate.

no e-oarty here either. we will just have a 'meet & greet' for some family members sometime this summer.

We're doing a similar thing. We are having our families at FMIL house this summer, as well as our BP.

When I got engaged I felt no need for an engagement party but my FMIL insisted we have one and she threw us one....
I absolutely had a great time and I am actually really glad we had one now....but if it wasn't for her we would not have had one....

FH and I think it's enough to ask of people to come to a bridal shower and wedding....we didn't want to have one because we think of it as asking for $. Juat a personal preference. Years ago everyone had one, it's less and less common now.

I agree with you thats why I didn't want one

FI and I were not going to have one. We are in a similar situation as many of you. We are paying for everything for the wedding and with rent , student loans, a child and car payments we couldnt afford the extra expense. We had to change our wedding date and switched the hall. we would have lost our $$ at the hall, over $4,000, so we asked if we could have an engagement party there using that money towards it. So thats the only way we could have done it. Besides we really wanted our families to meet again before the wedding. Less of a chance they will kill each other at a reputable place, I Hope!

Dont worry about it. Lots of people are not having one. Use your money for bigger and better things.
