sooooo...when we booked our venue, we guaranteed a 240 minimum since we had a guest list of 300. Here we are a month before the wedding, and most of my fiancee's family and both of our co-workers have for the most part rsvped no. We're looking at 170 if we're lucky. I don't really know what the precedent is for this and I'm terrified to speak to my venue about it...i'm also deeply disappointed and depressed. anyone have this happen? any advice? what mgiht i expect from the vanue?

Talk to your vendor as soon as possible!

I dont think that they will lower the minimum for you, since that is what you guaranteed. Although I dont know specifically for your hall, they may throw in extras for to make up for the money that you are paying for them. Don't be worried to talk to them, most places will try to accommodate you.

Definitely have the talk with your reception hall as soon as possible. Of course b/c of the contract you may have to pay for all those seats, but they may work with you. Perhaps they will cut the min. down a bit and see what they can add on for you, maybe a Viennese hour or something.

The hall should be able to throw in some freebies. Usually they will accommodate you- you are giving them a large amount of money!!

Ugh, I'm so sorry. We invited 256 guests, and we're getting a lot of unexpected nos just like you. Right now it looks like we're going to barely hit our minimum if we're lucky (and our minimum is only 150)! It's such a depressing things to me. Someone here already mentioned seat fillers - basically some girls ask other LIW girls to come so that the plate is not wasted. That's what I plan on doing if it's only a few people. I think the best idea is to talk to your RH and see what your best options are.
i will totally be a seat filler if you need one lol

I would definitely contact your reception hall sooner rather than later! Best of luck in working things out, I am sure they will help you out somehow :)

thanks ladies...believe me if i need seat fillers i will let you know asap! im going to give it until the weekend for those last minute rsvps and then im going to email my banquet manager. the biggest problem, unfortunately, is that fh's fam and coworkers completely backed out. granted there was a death in the family but i dont know...its just so sad for me right now. im also worried about the room looking empty now. well, i will let you know what the hall says...i really hope they work with me!

Good Luck! It will all work out! Could they maybe put in tables of 8 so the room looks fuller?

I don't think the room will be empty but if it does I saw a wedding set up at the Woodlands that was on the smaller side. They ended up drawing a curtain to block off part of one side and it looked fine. Let us know how things go! Good luck!

Did you tell the rh that the minimum would be 240 or do they require a minimum of 240? If their minimum is less then you may be ok. I would definitely put a call into them ASAP and discuss it with them instead of waiting.
Good Luck.

I would def play up the death in the family to the reception hall that way they might be more emphatic to your sitch. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they do something for you!

Re: Not meeting the minimum
With the venue I used, our minimum was 120. At one point we did not think we would meet our minimum and called and asked about it. They said you have to pay for the number you guarenteed regardless. Luckily, we ended up having 124!I would call your venue ASAP

I would not wait and call during the weekend. They will be busy and not be able to spend the time with you. You are always better dealing with the RH during the week. I would call today and find out if there is anything that they are willing to do. I know with my RH if we did not meet the minumum we would have had to pay for the minimum regardless

Also there was a post on here about an agreed amount of gift to give if you are a seat filler- so its not a total loss! I might be one too if u need because I really want to go to a wedding before mine!

Good luck! Now I am so scared that we won't reach our guarantee. Everyone is excited and talks about coming but its a holiday weekend so I hope that not everyone goes away... Sending out STD's in November to give people plenty of heads up bc we do not have that kind of money to throw away.
