At what point after a wedding or event do you start thinking it's weird if you haven't received a thank you. My cousin got married 2 years ago, and we NEVER got a thank you. My other cousin got married in November..no thank you yet. I think that's totally odd

I mena seriously, all of these people took the time to come to your wedding, I don't think it tkaes 6 months to write out thank yous, that's just so completely rude to me.

After 6 monhts, I start to wonder. I took us about 3-4 months, waiting for pictures. I went to a wedding 5 years a go & never got a thank you. I wonder if they have my new address.

I'm still waiting for two from last summer.
I'd say after 3 or 4 months. There may have been a problem waiting for the pictures or something.

I got a thank you card from a friend's shower and wedding 2 1/2 yrs. later. She is kinda flakey (She didn't know she was pregnant until she was 5 mths. ) but, 2 1/2 yrs. why bother after that much time.

I am guilty of mailing out my last few T/Y cards earlier this week (gulp almost six months later ) I really took a lot of time and wrote personal notes to everyone....that's what took me so long! I'm not the most creative writer!
We went to a wedding last May and still haven't gotten a T/Y....I figured as long as mine went out before hers I was OK.
OK enough excuses...I know it took longer than it should have, but at least I'm done now.
ETA...I did not get my T/Y cards and pictures until the end of January. Also, I had to write out 140 T/Y's and I ran out of cards (thanks JodiJohn for saving me here!).

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
Honestly I think as long as you get a thank you within a year, that's perfectly acceptable
3-4 month USED to be the rule but honestly, I think that is passe (well at least to me it is). Sometimes it just takes a lot longer to get pictures, etc. and its not POSSIBLE to get your thank yous out.
ETA: I have to make this comment, especialy for those not married yet - trust me, writing out 75-100 thank yous is NOT exactly as quick and painless and easy as you think it will be . We're all busy, and its very time consuing. Your opinions might drastically change when your time comes

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
A YEAR! I have to disagree. I think 6 months HAD to be the upper limit. Even if you're writing a persoanl note. If you have 100mTY;s to write even if you write ONE a DAY that's only 3 mos. I can understand waiting for pictures though..although if you're getting slip ins they cna give you the vcards ahead of time..
Ok so I guess it's not rare to have it take a long time..
but o you think that if you don't get one within 6 mos or a year do you start to assume they either didn't get the gift, or they divorced or something?

We agree to disagree, then
And to me, no its not rare to get a thank you 6 months or later.. probably because 90% of my family and friends HAVE sent them in that timeframe, so I guess it doesn't shock or surprise me *shrug* I would consider anything past 1 year to be a bit ridiculous, however. And yes 2 1/2 yrs is just stooopid
But no, I wouldn't at all assume the couple didn't get the gift or were divorcing based on a thank you being later than you consider acceptable. I always give a check anyhow, and once that check comes back cashed I know the couple got it

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
I have to add that I think I'm a little obsessive abut this, more than most. I was raised that if somsone gets you a gift, you send a thank you card promptly. My mom always made me do it, so it's in my head. I sent out engagement gift thank yous right away, within a day or two of getting the gifts

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
I dont know but I grew up in a home where we wrote thank you notes for everything. I know my life will be nothing short of chaotic but I plan on writing the thank you notes as soon as I get home from my honeymoon - though I am sure it will be easier said than done.

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
I am crazy, when I was addressing invites, I was also adressing TY's at the same time, same lists. So all the envelopes were ready, and once I got pics, they were out in the mail within 3 weeks. I hate to have this ligering in my head.

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
Ladies - don't get me wrong. I also grew up in a home where my Mom instilled in us the importance of writing out thank you cards, something I still do to this day (be it a birthday gift from a friend or family, my shower, etc)
My wedding thank yous were out in 3 months, and it would have been sooner had I not taken so long to decide on my picture.
My point being, I still wouldn't look down on or 'expect' that anyone who doesn't send a thank you in 6 mos or less is not appreciative of the gift you gave them. There are often extenuating circumstances, and unless I knew otherwise I wouldn't hold it against them
Again - JMO

Re: Not really WR, When do you expect a thank you
I think even with everything going on, one should be able to get the thank you notes out in under the 6 month mark. I wrote out at least 70 and it did take a long time, but I felt is was important to get them out ASAP.
