I am really hoping to have my reception in anyplace but a typical 'ballroom'. Something like a loft or mansion. I saw a few things about the Bourne Mansion, but not much....does anyone know anything more about it?
Has anyone gotten quotes from any of the vineyards out east. So far they all seem very expensive, 10,000 site fee and then a pp catering fee on top of that!
I have also looked at a couple of lofts in NYC but also very expenisive.
Any thoughts on the brooklyn botanical gardens?
I will be thankful for any help you guys can give me!

Re: not your normal wedding reception.....
I am a bit partial to the Vanderbilt mansion in Oakdale. It is beautiful and on the water. They didn't have ANY site fee when I booked but Lessings has taken them over since then. If you look at it know that there are two Vanderbilt mansions (oh to be so lucky) one in Huntington and one in Oakdale.

Re: not your normal wedding reception.....
I was interested in having our wedding at the Bourne, I called the company to see the Bourne Mansion and Coindre Hall. The day before the appointment they called to cancel without giving me any reason. Then they agreed to show me one of the mansions but said they 'did not have time' to show the other one. I decided to just not look there after that experience.

That's too bad about the Bourne! Weird too! I haven't had any problems at this stage of the game and we LOVE the Bourne. It's exactly what we were looking for!

Re: not your normal wedding reception.....
for mansions, deSeversky is pretty, especially around Christmas time... It also has good food.
If you like the hampton feel, but not the hampton price, you can check out small catering places on the north shore. I think there is one in East Setauket right on the water.....

theres a loft in Long Island City, Queens that has a view of the city. I'm not sure of the name, but I know it holds weddings.
I think you are talking about the Foundry. It looks awesome!!!

Sounds like you were dealing with Lessings? If so, there are two other caterers that work out of Coindre Hall. I used one for my wedding (Andrews Fabulous food and Event Management) and DO NOT recommend them - I'll be posting a review within the next week or so with details why they suck. However, I have heard good things from another bride on the other catering company. You might want to try them:
