NWR - An OMG sitch!

Original post by JenniferLee111204

I got fired today. I am sitting home in total disbelief. The director at my job physically intimidated me and caused our argument to a total blow out. They fired me for insobordination. I am scared and shocked - after all i have done for that company and worked so hard, and taken all the verbal abuse from her and then I get fired 57 days before my wedding. OMG. I am so sorry but i so needed to vent. Im just scared and confused and disgusted.

im sorry to do this here. i just think that i will apply for unemployment and concentrate on our wedding and of course finding a job. Oh boy!!

Thanks for listening.

If your former company is smart, they will just tell the Dept of Labor that you were let go because of 'fit' issues. That you were not the right fit. I would call HR and negotiate that. It will take some guts, but it will be worth it. You will be fine..I was in the same spot a while ago and while it sucked right after it happend, I was much better off. I am at a place where I am appreciated and feel productive and I have a great boss! I didn't think it could happen, but it did. You will find the right thing. Take a few weeks off to get your head together. Don't rush into the next job so fast. This is an awful thing that happened to you and you need time to re-coup. Good luck and FM me if you want

Blessing in disguise. I cant wait until my contract is up so I can leave my job too.

First of all, breathe. Too much has happened for you to process everything all at once.
Then calmly, write down to the best of your recollection (DO THIS ASAP) everything that transpired in as much detail as you can recall. If you feel you were fired without cause, the next step is to contact an employment atty -- this will need to happen soon. Also, give yourself a little time with the new search. Although, noone will legally ask the question, it will likely come up that in the immediate start of employment that you will be taking x-time off for wedding/honeymoon. Talk to your FI, assess where your finances are and then make a decision -- maybe P/T is an option for now. FM me if I can be of any help or you just need someone to vent to.

I agree with what DebMaher said - write it all down ASAP.

I was in a similar situation 2 years ago with a B**** for a boss. I wasnt fired, I quit but they granted me unemployment and a severance anyway because they knew I would take legal action if I didnt. Its possible your company might do the same since you FH is a lawyer and it seems you were physically defending yourself.

You may not realize this now, but it is a blessing in disguise. It may seem like bad timing with the wedding coming up, but I promise you everything will work out in the end. I was unemployed for 3 months, supporting myself, living in Queens and that was better than being at that job for one more second!

How long were you at your company for?

Is this in LI or NYC? Or neither?

I know how you feel. I got fired once and even though it totally was a blessing in disguise, I just felt lost and adrift at the time. I'm so sorry you're going through this.

But you should DEFINITELY report your boss's physical intimidation to the HR department--in writing. That's completely inappropriate, if not illegal, behavior. And if there's not an HR department, I'd write it to her boss. If they're smart, they'll tell the unemployment agency that you were fired for some other reason.

Try to concentrate on your wonderful new life that's about to start--you'll be going into your marriage with a clean slate and no crappy job to make you stressed!

Honey....

This to me sounds like the work of the Lord....don't worry, he won't leave you in a bad situation. For a matter of fact.....I think, he removed you from unhappyness. You know!!!!!

Sorry, it had to happen before the wedding, but maybe you needed this time off to plan the most wonderful day in your life and recouperate!!!!!

Go collect unemployment..and go back to school if you have too.

I wish I would get fired...

But I know how you feel...It sucks BIG time...

You'll find something...Just gotta make your search a full-time job now...

What do you do?

This is what I was thinking as I read the post. I want to be able to look for a new job, but if I could collect unemployment while I did it, it would be much more convenient.

I am sorry, though, that you are going through this. You know, it is really true, things usually happen for a reason. Let yourself be upset a few days, but I am sure in no time you will see the silver lining.
