I heard these comments, too. I am NOT defending her comments. I just want to point out, since the above it is not in context, that she is referring to FOUR women from NJ who are using the events of 9-11 to make political statements about non-9-11 issues. They are taking their moment in the spotlight and exploiting it. I agree with the PREMISE of what she means, but NOT the way in which she stated them. Her wording is WAY out of line and I don't think these women in any way ENJOY the fact that that their husbands and the fathers of their children were killed by terrorists who hate America... those poor men. But I don't think that the wives are memorializing their husbands' deaths in a good way by politicizing their deaths and capitalizing off of it, which I think is why Ann Coulter (who I think is a strong woman who obviously speaks her mind) is so upset - and what upsets me as well. I would NOT have worded it as HARSHLY INSENSITIVELY as she did... that was all just uncalled for. But, on the other side, Michael Moore has said and done even worse against the men currently fighting for our freedom even to say all this...
As for the LEGALITIES for Moore and Coulter to say all this... I'm sure the courts will take care of this.
I really hate that this was even brought into this chat room... I love coming here to talk WEDDINGS and nothing but weddings. All this other stuff just gives me a headache!!
This is so true. Before I saw her interview yesterday morning on the news I just heard of her comments. I too was ticked off. But after hearing her defend her satements I saw where it was coming from.
I too am not defending her comments b/c they were harsh, but I agree w/ what she was trying to say.( re: the NJ wives)
If she stops comming off as evil as her comments this would not have made such a controversy
I think that regardless of whether you agree with the point she is trying to make (for the record, I do not), she does a complete disservice to herself by expressing herself this way. If you have a point to make, express it in a logical way and give examples, don't resort to slandering others...
As my mother used to say, 'You catch more bees with honey than with vinegar.' Even if there are people out there that agree with her take on this group of women, I doubt most of them will be able to get past the hateful way in which she talks about them to see her point.
i agree with this.
michael moore also steps over the line sometimes, but so far i havent heard him say anything racist. we're focusing on the 9/11 comments here, but what about all the racist comments she's made?
how about:
In an interview with George Gurley, Coulter said, 'My only regret with Timothy McVeigh is he did not go to the New York Times building.' (Coulter, August 26, 2002)
Coulter has referred to the Middle East as a 'swamp'] and advocated racial profiling on airliners.Later, in an interview with the British Guardian newspaper, Coulter quipped: 'I think airlines ought to start advertising: 'We have the most civil rights lawsuits brought against us by Arabs.'' When asked what Muslims should do for travel, she responded that they 'could use flying carpets.'
not to mention the sexist comments shes made.
i firmly believe in freedom of speech, so of course she can say as she wishes. the worst speech is the speech most deserving of 1st amend protection
but i dont respect her. and i dont think this is about conservatives getting called b*tches just for making their comments. there are many conservatives who speak more eloquently.
she is rude and disrespectful. but hey, shes making millions off of it!
