nwr - any docs or nurses?

so recently I have had issues with chronic hives. two days ago, I noticed that areas on my legs have been itching uncontrolably (no hives that I can see though) and now this AM - I woke up with huge bruises in the areas where I was itchy

has anyone ever experienced this, or know what this is? Can itching cause bruising? im so tired of hives and itching and swelling

I'm not a nurse, but itching can def cause something that looks like bruising - if you scratch hard enough, you pop blood vessels and the skin can get red blotchy (like a hickey haha), and if you are really scratching hard during the night, it can def be a bruise

ETA: This has happened to me many times

yah, i guess thats what it looks like. of course i googled 'bruising and itching' and find that it can be related to liver issues so now im freaking i just need to relax. Chronic hives are the worst - I wouldnt wish them on my worst enemy

Don't google that stuff lol - its just because you are scratching too hard.

I don't get hives, but my boobs get really itchy. . .FH teases me because it looks like hickeys all over my boob all the time, but its really bruising. I get it on my legs too. . .not sure what is causing the hives, but I wouldn't stress over the bruises

yah - I have been to an allergist/immunologist and I am currently back on prednisone. In december, I was very sick with it, I was on prednisone for 2 months then. I am looking into a new doc

yes you need a new doctor.. my friend was NOT on prednisone and has been doing great with her meds (when she takes them shes a really horrible patient) We recommend the Allergry Testing Center.. im not sure of the location but i can get it for you. Also do yourself a favor and dont google it.. theres some really crazy sh!t on the internet and you dont want to get all worked up for no reason!

Heres the info for the (click the link) Allergy Testing Center I hope this helps.

thanks so much! so for me, the hives are autoimmune related - not really something that I'm allergic to. I also have an autoimmune hypothyroid conditon so its not something that is transient. I have spoken with my doc about immunosupressants but im trying not to go that route ... ugh

ill have to ask my friend what hers were.. but im almost 100% sure hers were autoimmune also... your right you really dont want to go the autoimmune direction if you dont have to there are so many complications.

her cocktail included xyzal (the new zyrtec) hydroxyzine and i think one other.. but those were the 2 main.

i would get another opinion.. i really dont think that prednisone is your only option. Does it work when you take it?

i am a nurse....i don't suggest GOOGLE but i do suggest a doctor this can be related to anything...bug bites, STRESS (hi you are getting married)....anything. Google is a waste of time. I don't know anyone who has ever looked up a condition and actually figured out what they had! HTH and feel better
