NWR: Anyone know of couples who have broken off their engagements? How was the bride?

I am concerned that I might end up being one of those horror stories of broken engagements. Please tell me that something has worked out for someone whose engagement has been broken off. I need some hope.

It almost happened to me but we worked it out. Please FM so I can understand your situation more, if you want.

Don't think like that. Stay positive.

FH & I had shopped for e-rings & were together over a year & then we broke up for 8 months. We got back together & 6 months later were engaged & this time we appreciate e/o so much more & we both seem more ready for marriage. Hang in there!!!!!!!!

Well, you know my story and how I almost married ST . . . and you know how that turned out... I would say, I followed my heart... for the best. Clearly not meant to be, as now I'm really happy with someone for the first time ever.

In your case though, follow your heart, whichever way it tells you to go - it will not lead you wrong.

Know that whatever you do, I will support you 100% in your decision.

love you!

I broke off my engagement 10 years ago, and it was for the best. Had I stayed with my ex, I would be married with kids and miserable!! Everything happens for a reason. Had I not broken it off, I would not be with the wonderful man I am with now.

My SIL's best friend just broke off his engagement about a month ago. I saw him and his ex fiancee at my SIL's baby shower, and they both seemed to be just fine.

Regardless of what happens, remember that no matter what make sure that you are happy and that you are with someone who truly makes you happy.

Re: NWR: Anyone know of couples who have broken off their engagements? How was the bride?

I know a girl who broke off her engagement 1 month before the wedding. Invites had gone out already and mostly everything was paid for. Her and FH had been together for awhile but had been having some trouble. He had issues stemming back to 9/11 which he was ignoring and they basically weren't spending any time together. She felt really weird about the relationship in general and broke off the engagement and cancelled the wedding. It was a real wake-up call for them both. He went back to counseling (which he desperatly needed from 9/11) and they started talking about their issues and spending quality time together. They even went on their HM and that was their first vacation together alone. Well, fast forward 2 years later and they are still together and very happy!! They don't let anyone pressure them w/ 'when are you getting married questions' and they figure that when they do get married (maybe next year) they'll go to Vegas or something. It seems like they are much better off now than they would have been otherwise. Anything is possible!! Good luck!!

Re: NWR: Anyone know of couples who have broken off their engagements? How was the bride?

My FH when we first moved in had our problems. Espeically when when he lost his job, and money was tight. There have been times I've taken my ring off and now wear it for days. When we first got engaged we wanted to just run off and elope, but I'm glad we didn't. It took time, patiences, we changed our date three times. You know we are both greatful for it. We have been engaged since januray 8, 2003, it will be almost four years when we get married. You know what we are very happy we waited so long. It gave us time to get closer and love each other more. We still fight over me keeping my maiden name, and his family and stuff. But honestly pulling the wedding date back saved our relationship. I don't know what kind of trouble you are having but maybe you need to put the stress of a wedding and marriage aside and work on your relationship. Forcus not on the dress, flowers, menus, photographers etc... and focus on the time you have promised to be together. It saved us, at our handfasting (www.handfasting.info) I was in tears. Our vows were said at the sper of the moment. No pratice or writting them down. We both eaned that happy moment, as we will earn a life time together. Marriage isn't something given, its earned, and the wedding day isn't what makes you married, its every second after you say 'I Do!' that does. Sorry that this is so long. Feel better.

Re: NWR: Anyone know of couples who have broken off their engagements? How was the bride?

4 months after FH and I got engaged we went through a 'separation'. I moved back with my parents for a month while we worked things out. We needed the time apart to get perspective on our relationship that we weren't getting when we were in each other's face. It gave us the opportunity to step back and see what was going wrong with our relationship. At the time, I thought it was hopeless, but in time we realized that we truly loved one another, missed each other and our differences were things we could work out...not things we couldn't live with the rest of our lives. Don't give up hope!!

My cousin was engaged...but last week his fiance broke off the engagement. They were dating about 10 years I believe...they are young -in their 20s, they just met really young, well she decided that she didnt want to be married and was still in party mode and wanted other things in her life....I know he is is sad...BUT I AM POSITIVE that he knows everything happens for a reason and if she isnt ready now, what would make her ready in a few months/a year when they get married....SOOO, the sadness will end soon and he will move on and find someone he truly loves and who truly loves him... It WILL all work out for the best!

HOWEVER, you should think positively about yourself and your relationship-see where the weaknesses lie (and we all have them ) and work on them...YOu know what is best for you, even though we sometimes try to ignore what our souls are telling us...Good LUck and if you need to chat, PLEASE dont hesitate to FM

My FSIL broke off her first engagement a few months before the wedding. She recently married the 'one who almost got away' and could not be happier. This after he married someone else and she almost married someone else. It will all work out in the end. Just follow your heart and know we're here to support you.
