I saw this at Williams Sonoma and thought it was perfect for DH's aunt. She loves to bake, and DH's uncle (her husband) loves trains. Doesn't it make a cute cake?
But my question is: it only holds 6 cups of batter. What is the average amount of batter that a cake recipe makes? Is 6 cups small, or average? How many people would a cake like this serve?
oh it's really cute I love williams sonoma. Im not sure what a normal cake is but it does look kind of small. I would definitely make a separate cake on the side just in case.

I just checked the Duncan Hines website and it says each box makes about 5 1/2 cups of batter. I would guess all boxed cake mixes would be about the same.

normally williams sonoma will give you directions on the packaging, exact proportions and everything.
