If you have skipped your period with the pill dose it make your hormones go crazy? My doctor wants me to start skipping it now, but I wanted to know if it effected any of you? I would LOVE not to have my period for a while, but I don't want to be one big hormone TIA

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
I tried doing that before and, not to be gross, but I had spotting, cramping for 2 weeks. I couldn't deal with that so I let nature take it's course.
I am going to ask my doctor next week, if that goes away after the first month..I would love to skip it too, but soo not willing to let that happen again..

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
I did it for a few months - adding one extra week, so that instead of 3 weeks on and one week off - it was 4 on, 1 off. that was ok- i did it for probably 4-5 months. then i tried 2 weeks extra - 5 on, 1 off. that i didnt like. i felt like i had pms for an extra week. so i went back to the regular.

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
I have done it but I don't do it all the time. If I was going on vacation or something like that I would do it, I still felt a little symptomatic...bloating, cramps just no period. Whatever works for you I guess! Good luck!

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
before the pill i was soooo regular. every 28 days to the day i would get it, and have it for 4 days! then i started the pill, had NO irregularity.... until i went on the cruise and skipped my period with the pill. after that i was soo messed up, i would be late, have it longer than normal, not get it at all lol i was all messed up. My dr. says its not good to skip, but sometimes u just have to!!!! not to be gross but its a way of your body cleaning out its system lol ewwww anyway i took myself off the pill for a few months, to kind of get back on track, and will be going on again soon. what type do u guys take????

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
I've never tried to skip or change my dosage. I even freak out when I miss one pill and have to double up the next day. WHat is the purpose of doing it? can you go without your period and still be protected? WOw, sounds too good to be true!

i have found that using monophasic pills works better when skipping a period than triphasic pills whichis what ortho tri cycln is. in a monophasic pill the amount of hormone is the same in every pill, but the triphasic pill's hormones vary from the 1st week to the 3rd week. that's why some people spot if they use ortho tri cyclen and other triphasic pills. i use apri, which is the generic of desogen, a monophasic pill. i have has no problems skipping. hope this helps!

Yup... I'm on Apri (desogen) as well, and I've skipped my period a few times on it and had virtually no problems, and no symptoms... I tried soooo many of the pills out there and had terrible reactions to all but Apri

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
It depends on the type of pill.
The tricyclins (ones that change hormone levels each week) might have trouble with mood swings, etc.
The even level hormone ones are used regularly like seasonale, which is a 3 month on, then 1 week off and you get period pills.
I think it also depends if you already get mood swings and when. If you get them during the placebo week, you're gonna be fine!
I hope this helps.
ETA: I just saw post above. If you take 2 weeks of week one, 2 of 2, and 2 of three and you don't have moods swings normally it should be ok.
PS - not a doctor yet so talk with your doc for the real answer - he/she has seen it most often!

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
i am on seasonal so i only get it once every 3 monts - works well -it is a mono pill -same level every day - two different doctors said not to skip on ortho tri cyclen seasonal is great though and you get 6 months free when you start right now PS i was waiting a couple of years for this to come out

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
I've read that there is research that there have been women who have went a whole year without getting their period. The whole theory is that the pill is based on a woman's natural cycle - but why should she have a natural cycle if she's on the pill? If at best - at least it allows you to not have your period for very important times!

Re: NWR..... Birth Control Question
I tried skipping the placebo week and I had light bleeding for 2 weeks and major cramps...after that I just decided to do the natural thing and let myself get my period. I heard that skipping the placebo does work for people and it also depends on what type of pill you are on.
