NWR: Brazilian straightening?

NWR: Brazilian straightening?

Anyone do this to their hair??

Happy with the results??

How long did it last?

Where did you get it done??

I am thinking about it, but I am scared because a few years back I did Japanese straightening, and half my hair burned off/fell out. But I heard this is less harsh.

Please tell me your experiences. TIA!

If you want your hair pin straight you wont get it with BKT. It is not a straightener it is more of a relaxer.

I have been doing it for a few years now...I have curly hair and it loosens my curls but I still need to blow it out. The drying time is cut and if I want to wear my hair pin straight I still have to break out the iron.

It only last 2-3 months....people say it lasts longer but it never has for me.

I love it but I dont think if I had to pay full price for it I would do it all the time.

if you were to pick between the two, i would suggest the brazilian over the japanese. i know a person who have had both done and i saw the difference - my mom! my mom got hers done a couple of months ago and her hair has been straight eversince. i think it has been 4-5 months now. i know her lifestyle - she NEVER uses a straight iron! the plus side is, i think the brazilian brought out more shine to her hair and it's definitely more 'softer' than when she had the japanese straightening treatment.

i don't know how long the brazilian treatment lasts but i guess this will depend on the type of hair and lifestyle that you have.

I've done both! I do a formaldehyde free 'keratin' treatment. They call it that because when people refer to Brazilian, it usually contains formaldehyde. I'm very happy with the results and it can last anywhere between 4-6 months. You have to use a special shampoo and conditioner as to not strip your hair of the keratin (which is a vitamin). The more you do it, the more keratin in your hair. Basically, the second time you go, you will still have keratin from the first time. This is a great solution if you don't want it to be permanent. Yes, you still need to blow dry it but I also needed to blow dry with Japanese to give it a silkier effect.

I did Japanese for 4 years, because I got it done free by the product manufacturer. They used me for classes when stylists get certified. They stopped doing it for free, so I stopped going and looked into the formaldehyde-free Brazilian. Japanese has harsh chemicals and is permanent. The only way to get rid of it is to grow it out. You can find cheap deals out there, but you have to be careful that they know what they are doing and what products they are using. When your roots grow, half your hair is straight and the other half is curly.

I used to love Japanese, until I did Brazilian. I love that it's not permanent and not as damaging to your hair.

Btw, my hair is really curly. I have think curls that end in spiral. If you click into my profile, you can see my hair the way it looks with the Brazilian.

I get it done at Kimera Salon in Plainvew by Gina.

I do the Brazilian straightening and I love it!! I've never done the japanese so I can't personally comment on the difference, but my sister has done the japanese and from what I saw of it I think the Brazilian is much better. First of all its not bad for your hair like the japanese straightening tends to be. When my sister did it she had pieces of her hair that started to break very badly.

I like the brazilian because it doesn't make it pin straight. I no longer use a straightening iron, I just blow dry, so my hair isn't as flat.. I have a lot more body to it now. It takes me half the amount of time to blow dry and it never gets frizzy in humid weather.

My freind does mine for significantly cheaper than it costs in the salons, so I'm not sure if I would do it as often if I had to pay full price. For some people it seems to last longer than others. Mine usually starts to come out with in 3 months.

Brazilian didn't straighten my hair but it made it less frizzy for about 2-3 weeks which wasn't what I'd hoped for so I opted for Japanese straightening which was money well spent, in my opinion.

BKT is NOT a straightener.
Its a smoothing keratin treatment, which makes your hair not frizzy and more manageable. I love BKT - it has cut my drying time by more than half, and I dont frizz, even when its humid. It has loosened my curl a bit, but not completely.
For me it lasts 3 months.

Japanese is the worst thing I ever did for my hair. It is completely damaging, and it took years for me to grow it all out. Also with Japanese, your hair can't do anything but be straight.
