Original post by kms71705

I was going to get my sisters, tickets to Wicked for a thank you for being in the wedding, but there are no good seats for the next 4 months. What other shows are good?

TIA,

Definitely depends on what she likes.

Wicked is great
Ave Q-hilarious, but raunchy and very un-PC
La Cage Aux Folles-fantastic and good seats
Sweet Charity-very cute, still in previews

Plays
Steel Magnolias-excellent and wedding-ish!

Hmm, all of these suggestions sound great. I just want to mention maybe Tony n' Tina's Wedding. It's supposed to be really funny and I think you're actually guests at the wedding, it's audience interactive, if you like that kinda thing.

All of the suggestions for musicals sound great - if you are interested in a drama, then by all means

SEE THE PILLOWMAN! I've been waiting a year for this play to come to New York from London. I read it and loved it - assigned it to my students (who hate everything) and they loved it and I'm seeing it on Sunday. Can't wait!!!!

(but don't read the NY Times review of it - it gives away way too much info - you should go in not knowing anything - it's the best play of the last decade, in my opinion.)

Wow, that's quite a glowing recommendation. What is it about? Who is in it? Has it opened already?

It opened already - though I dont know how long it will run. It's a new play by Martin McDonagh (Beauty Queen of Leenane) though this is not set in Ireland - it's not set anywhere recognizable.

It stars Billy Crudup and Jeff Goldblum. I hesitate to say anything about the story. . . but the basic premise of the plot is as follows:

A writer (Billy Crudup) is brought in for questioning after a series of crimes in the town bear a striking similarity to those in his stories.

It's terrifying, horrifying and hilarious at the same time. . . and it's so theatrical - the design of the play is amazing. I highly recommend it.

Personally I would get the Wickid tickets...trust me four months is worth the wait...the play is great! Otherwise, I would recommend Rent, Phantom...Phantom is my favorite!
