NWR - Can anyone recommend a dog?

Original post by MrsNYPDsGirl

DH and I are contemplating getting a dog, but we are unsure about which breed...

Anyone know of any small / medium size dog that is allowed to be carried on the plane in a bag and is also good with kids???

I have always thought that smaller dogs are more tempermental... Any opinions???

Thanks so much!!!

How could I forget?? I used to dog sit for two papillions. They are adorable and good dogs. They were easy to train and very affectionate. I wanted to make sure I included them because they were great!!

ive never had a dog, but we're thinking of getting one soon too. I've been looking up breeds online and fell in love wiht the 'cavachon' it's a mix of a cavalier king charles spaniel and a bichon. they are pretty small and seem to be smart and well tempered . my cousins have a 'cockapoo' and he is the most awesome dog. He is very friendly , small, and no shedidng. on the other hand my friends parents have a cockapoo and she is the craziest dog i have ever met, but extremely cute. she is also slightly bigger than my cousin's cockapoo! good luck. I love looking at everyone's pups!

I have a Yorkie and a Morkie (maltese and yorkie mix) I love them both. Yorkies can be loud at times but very loyal an they are good guard dogs (excuse the size). My two year old Yorkie is expecting her first litter of pups in about a week or so. Can't wait.

Her is a picture of her

My mom has a yorkie. She's very frinedly, small and great with kids.

Please don't buy a teacup anything!!! Yorkies on their own are only up to 6lbs. A teacup just means they kept breeding the runt with another runt until they got a very small usually unhealthy dog!

Welsh Corgies are very laid back and not high maintenance. I learned the hard way that Miniature Pinchers, are not good apartment dogs. Too energetic!

I have a yorkiepoo (yorkie and a poodle) he is about 15lbs, so he is a smaller dog, but not too small. Very smart and loyal, a good guard dog (can hear someone coming from a mile away) but of course his bark is worse than his bite!!

I have a Maltese and I ADORE him. He is my first dog (I am highly allergic to all other dogs) He is 4 years old and full grown at 4 lbs!! I carry him everywhere in a little bag and everyone flips over him and I know you will be able to bring him on a plane with you. He can be a bit high strung at times but I don't try to correct his behavior so him being a lil crazy sometimes is totally my own fault. I recommend the Maltese to everyone...I adore the breed!

Good luck with finding the perfect dog!!!

I have a French Bulldog and I can't say enough about this breed. They are smart, funny, loveable, and gentle. They are great with kids and so playful, yet very mellow when they want to be.

I recommend this breed to EVERYONE! They are bred specifically for companionship. They need very little exercize and grooming maintenance.

Just whatever you do, be very good in researching a breeder. The Frenchie blew up in the world of dogs within the past few years and there have been A LOT of issues with breeders and puppy mills in the US. Be aware of their health issues. A good breeder will explain all this to you. A bad one will not. If you buy a dog from a reputable breeder, you will have no problems. But do your research!

Beagles are awesome!! I grew up with one and he was the best. Great temperment, awesome with kids and really smart. They come in two or three sizes also, so you can get a smaller or larger one depending on what you want.

FH & I have our lovable dobermutt (half doberman, half german shorthaired pointer) in the picture on the left because we like a big dog. But when we get our house, we are getting him a beagle playmate
