NWR: Costco Shockers!!!

I went to have dinner with my friends last night and this is what I found out! Since he's the supervisor of Costco in Garden City area, he was telling me about all the returns that goes on in Costco. So, supposedly, if you keep your receipts, you can return items from Costco from years and years before. He had customers return camcorders that was purchased 5 years ago, mattresses, furniture and even dairy products. He has had customers return a quater gallon of milk left for refund of one quarter of the cost. People bought cake and return the cake with only 1 slice left, claiming the cake was not good!!!
Am I the only one who apparently didn't know this about Costco's return policy? It kind of makes me nervous about purchasing items from there!!!

Thats so gross! I don't think they would put the perishables back on the self. I can't imagine someone returning a quarter of a gallon of milk or a slice of a cake! how strange!!!

I don't think they put it back on the shelf. BUT, just the idea of them refunding the customer for whatever it's left makes me gag!!!

omg .!!!! too bad i dont shop there!! jk i hate returning stuff!

I didn't know that but I'm not surprised. The news did a story on Victoria's Secret and how they accepted returns on underware and bras, then just put them back on the rack! So now I buy all my underware online (it comes in sealed plastic bags with the strip on the crotch). Alot of stores have these policies you just got to read the recipets.

I order online too - i saw a news segment on underwear from VS - they marked the tag so they knew it was theirs, the lady WORE them, returned them, went back a few hours later and there they were, laying on the sales floor....definitely need the barf icon here!

They have excellent customer service. It's one of the benchmarks of their success.

Years ago there was an article about Nordstroms and how they took back a set of four tires from a customer who claimed to get them there...Nordstroms does not sell tires..but the manager took them back and refunded the customer an agreed upon amount.

It turned out that that customer was an editor for the New York Times and ran a full page ad about Nordstrom's customer service.

You can't pay to get that kind of advertising. That was worth millions.

Years ago I worked at Fortunoff in the jewelry department and ladies used to bring back their tarnished jewelry after years and years for a refund. We took it back..it used to really make me mad, but they have an excellent reputation.

I'm not sure about them putting these items back on the shelf. At least I hope they have since not to, but it is true.
That is their policy, as well as Nordstrom. I buy 85% of my shoes from there, and if the heel breaks, of anything for that matter happens to the shoe. They don't care if the shoes are 5yrs old, they take them back. As long as you have the receipt, or original box, they take them back for exchange, store credit, or if you fight w/ them enough full, or close to refund

My sister just told me they do flower arrangements for weddings now and they're gorgeous. The only thing is, you have to pick it up yourself.

Well you can get all your flowers, than return it after the wedding and get your money back.

What a great idea!

As for Costco's other stuff, you can't re-shelve food after it's been opened, so that stuff is safe. Who knows about the other stuff, though. And I'm really grossed out about VS...yuck!!!
