I couldnt agree with you more. In addition what im not understanding is why many woman that have replied are saying he made a mistake and are letting the racist remark overshadow the fact that he called women 'hoes'. This is something that any woman regardless of race, should never ever say, 'its just a mistake'.

I don't think any man with a wife, mother, sister, or daughter should let that slide, either. Or really, any human being.

maybe im the oddball but im not offended bc IM NOT A HOE....so why would i be ofended??? he wasnt attacking the enitre female population

i dont think he should have been fired...

First, there are MANY entertainers that call women in general out of their name All the time- yet their songs are played on the radio all the time- what has been their punishment??? Platinum records!!! So now Imus says something out of order and he gets fired and then it becomes a racial thing??? I am confused.

I think he should have been suspended but not fired... if we as a society are going to be selective of who & what we reprimand then what example are we setting? None!! I am by no means saying what he said was okay, but the punishment is totally biased!!! Nonetheless, he will be back- they are not going to keep him down- if he dont get a job here in NY, he will get one somewhere else where he will make just as much or more money. The heat is on right now, so they have to 'react' according' to what they feel is in their best interest.

***Disclaimer*** This is MY OPINION, so please no one take it personal****

I think that this is the big argument. Everyone agrees that the comment was inappropriate--fine...but it's the aftermath and the punishment that he got that is the bigger issue.

The aftermath of this incident has opened up a whole new argument. It has brought forth the question of where do we draw the line? If he is being punished so severely for this, then shouldn't others be punished as well?

Hmm... so here's what I think:

1) He's said crap like this for ages, so it's kind of a surprise he finally got fired.

2) what he says is nothing compared to what some of the conservative pundits say on the radio and tv ALL THE TIME. (Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Rush, etc).

3) It's a great way to distract the country from all the crap the gov't is doing wrong.

Just want to respond to one thing here...
I have never ever heard Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly etc ever say anything remotely close to what Don Imus said.

'Nappy Headed Hos' is a MUCH different and worse thing than calling terrorists nasty names thay they deserve. And also calling out Congressmen/women for the hippocrites they are.

The before mentioned pundits have never in my recollection make a direct derrogatory racial slur to a group of fine citizens who certainly did not deserve it.

Don't be so anxious to jump on the 'I hate the conservative radio talk show hosts and their opinions' band wagon just because you don't like their opinions.
This is a free country and they have a right to express their opinions. What Imus did was NOT expressing his opinion, it was a FLAT OUT UNINSTIGATED AND DIGUSTING RACIAL SLUR. There's a big difference there.

Thank you for saying that. I dont know WHERE you people HEAR these things...but you obviously dont actually WATCH Fox news. Bill O and Hannity have NEVER said anything even remotely derogetory on tv. The problem with Americans today is we get all caught up in 'conservative' and 'liberal' and what people SAY other people say, or what we think is good or bad....we dont actually take the time to get BOTH SIDES and THINK.
And the biggest problem with what Don Imus said is not just that he said it.....its that he attacked INNOCENT girls who had nothing to do with anything. They were not celebrities, they were not political figures, they were just a group of college girls. These were not rap lyrics talking about actual hos or actual s l u t s. Dont blame society or the 'rappers' -- yes, they shouldnt say what they say in rap songs.....but dont give Imus a scapegoat for something he said about innocent college girls

Re: NWR- Don Imus??

Something interesting I heard this morning... Hillary Clinton accepted a big donation for her campaign from the producer Timberland. Hillary has made comments that she supports the 'cleansing' of the airways.
In the last album Timberland produced, one song alone had the *N-word* in it 24 times.

I wonder, if Hillary will return her campaign money if she is so set on going after *no no* lyrics...

Again, I heard this on the radio, and I am paraphrasing so I could have explained COMPLETELY wrong, so correct me if I am.

I think my whole problem with this is if JJ & Rev Al are going to go after any derogatory language on our airways, then I wonder if they are going to go after hip hop stations and rock stations where lyrics typically use...

My opinion is that I am not offended by lyrics, I simply don't listen to them-- I'm afraid of the restriction of our freedom of speech as a nation. What's next?

AeroJenn- agree with your second paragraph. Imus shouldn't get a pass because of things other people have done. Again, this dude knew what he was doing, and has been doing it for ages.

OTOH, as for the first paragraph, for all of you that doubt the hate spewed by folks like Glenn Beck, Neil Cavuto, Ann Coulter, Michael Savage, Rush, O'Reilly, Hannity, just take a look at mediamatters.org, which does a far better job than I ever could of documenting the numerous offensive half truths and downright lies many of those commentators have to say. I have watched them- I've seen how they treat guests they don't agree with, and listened to them fabricate and distort facts to their hearts' content. And some of those folks suggest people target others because of their background, skin color, sexuality, or political beliefs. Keith Olbermann and Al Franken both wrote entire books about the lies coming out of their collective mouths. And noticed they haven't been sued for libel or slander, or called out for misquoting.

I'm happy to respectfully debate. Honestly, people are so quick to villify folks who don't agree with them, it's refreshing to actually discuss some of this stuff with all of you.

Good night, and good luck.

I'm sending you an FM about media matters. I'd write it here, but I think people would be bored.

Re: NWR- Don Imus??

We have all been discriminated against whether because of our color, sex or religion.

There is a wealth of opportunites for people to take and it is their choice not to take them. The victim card is Al Sharptan's favorite role to play.
Maybe instead he should be a role model and to be a strong voice. he should be setting up scholarships and be a voice of opportunity, promote the foundation of a strong home life and family..instread, I honestly feel like he is a voice of oppression and a symbol of one.

Where is he now? Will he targets the rappers and the drug pushers who are corroding the society or will he wait for an opportunity that is soooo insignificant in creating a strong race of people?

Opportunties - I know a wealth of highly educated, successful people from many walks of life and many different races & religions. They have all struggled in their life, lived in oppression but - they have taken it and it only made them stronger.

why is it ok for Imus to get fired when Rosie did not for making comments about Asian people and the comedians who rip apart the whites and every other race still have jobs - think this is a little hypocritical.

Hey all,

I know this horse, if not dead, is surely in danger of expiring, but for those who thought I was reaching when I said I thought I've heard others say things as bad and worse, please take a gander at this page, which has compiled a list of some of the most inappropriate things some of these other talk show hosts have said.

It's not just Imus

sorry to keep this dying thread alive... but seriously folks, the quotes from that link steathgroom just posted is possibly the scarriest and saddest stuff I have ever read... I had no idea this venomous cr@p is on the radio.... I'm so horrified...

QUOTES:

Just to piss them [blind people] off, I'm going to put in Braille on the coffee pot ... 'Pot is hot.' '

Glenn Beck referred to survivors of Hurricane Katrina who remained in New Orleans as 'scumbags.'

Boortz said that then-Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-GA) 'looks like a ghetto slut.'

Boortz suggested that a victim of Hurricane Katrina housed in an Atlanta hotel consider prostitution. 'If that's the only way she can take care of herself,' Boortz posited, 'it sure beats the hell out of sucking off the taxpayers.'

'As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: 'Take that bone out of your nose and call me back.' '

during a discussion of the development of ethanol-fueled vehicles in Brazil, O'Reilly stated that 'they still have people in Brazil running around with their little darts, hitting you in the head with the poisoned darts, with the loincloths.'

monologue about Martin Luther King Day, Savage called 'civil rights' a 'con' and asserted: 'It's a racket that is used to exploit primarily heterosexual, Christian, white males' birthright and steal from them what is their birthright and give it to people who didn't qualify for it.' Savage then said, 'Take a guess out of whose hide all of these rights are coming. ... [T]here is only one group that is targeted, and that group are white, heterosexual males.' He added: 'They are the new witches being hunted by the illiberal left using the guise of civil rights and fairness to women and whatnot.'

Savage expressed disdain for a newspaper article about 'what breeds of dogs came first' that did not include that 'the Asians still chew 'em [dogs] up.'
