NWR: Dress code change at my office!!!

Original post by LoveBug1124

okay so we are just having a going away party in our conference room for one of the women th'ats been here 18 years.... The vice president comes in and makes an announcement..... effective Monday no more tank tops, capris (even dress capris), jeans, t-shirt type shirts & open toed shoes (even heels)!!!

Even one is like *** where did this come from - it was always no jeans and sneakers (except fridays) but now everything else is finished too. And fridays are no longer dress down!

Are they going to give us raises to go buy suits?

I had a change like this in my last office. The reason they had to implement it was that certain people were abusing the 'career casual' policy. One girl wore a Rangers jersey and knit leggings to work just about once a week and another was coming to work in graphic tees and faded jeans. Not professional at all. So we implemented a full career dress policy. It loosened up a little once people were back on the right track... but it DEFINITELY s*cked for a while there! And it was bad for the people who didn't abuse the casual policy .. it was like - why are WE being punished for the bad common sense of a few? *sigh*

ETA - The open toe shoe thing IS weird though... do you work in a place where open toes can be construed as a hazard to your safety?

No, well unless the guys come back trashed from lunch and step on my toes. Other then that nope.

Something similar happened last year at my office. For the past 10 years I was able to wear my jeans to work then out of the blue without explanation, they changed it. Jeans were only allowed on Fridays. They tried this a few times before and no one listened, but now, more people listened.

It really ***** in my place because I work in the office area up front and in the back its a warehouse and people come up front wearing tiny little shorts or there's a woman that works up front and the majority of the time, she's dressed like a whore, but that's ok

It just ***** a$$.

that's why alot of people are upset some of the girls have been her for 15+ years and as long as they were put together and not in jeans or flip flops with clients it was fine. Now all of a sudden it's changing. like today the owner of our company came in wearing sneakers, shorts and a polo.... like ***?

The company Im at now is wierd. Some depts. can wear jeans and sneakers everyday and then there are some depts. who have to wear business casual and then there are those who must dress to the nines all the time. I'm in the dept that has to wear business casual and while it's not a hassle it s*cks to see people walking around in jeans. No one at the company (except for those who have to dress to the nines, they're the execs.) has face to face interaction with clients, so why we all can't be comfy in jeans is beyond me... but at least we get our casual Friday... I would be sooo annoyed if they took that away!
