(NWR) Embarrassed to admit this:

Original post by SeptBride70

I consider myself to be pretty level-headed and I'm usually a 'tuff' cookie (at least that's what my friends and family say, whether I think that's true or not I don't know lol)... But I'm absolutely terrified of what I have to do in just FOUR days: get on a plane and fly to Barbados.

I know it sounds silly but I can't help it and I'm getting more and more scared as Friday morning 7am approaches... I think winning the trip at the LIW Anniversary Party happened for a reason because it's forcing me to GET OVER IT and get on that plane and I'm SO happy and blessed to have won it but I'm still so scared (and I'm not scared of a lot of things-- we own a snake!! lol).

I hate flying though, I hate the idea of my life in someone else's hands. I don't know why girls but I'm so scared... anyone else in my position or can offer some words of advice/encouragement? Sorry this is a little long-- help me out here.

Let me tell you something- 2 years ago I went on a trip to greece with my FH, grandmother and aunt. The flight there is 9 hours and back 11
or vice versa- I almost cancelled the whole trip because i was PETRIFIED!!!
Take it from me its not that bad! Just relax try to take like tylenol PM or something and youll be knocked out for the whole time! That was something I didnt do and I didnt sleep at all on the plane- mostly though because i was kinda excited to go- youll be fine and youll have a wonderful time!!! POST PICS!!!!

aww thanks, it def helps calm my nerves but it's not totally doing the trick of course-- but the advice is a big help too. i mean, i guess you can't play with destiny-- if it's my time to go then it's my time and i don't feel that it's my time ANY time soon-- so that's good, i get positive vibes from that!!!

Plus, if I die, after all this freaking money and time and energy spent on this wedding-- Oh i'll be SO MAD!!! lol

I can't begin to explain how many times I've been on a plane but each, and eveytime I get on one I'm scared **** less. Don't worry your not the only one. Just try to take something to put you to sleep. Or engage in a good conversation. That's what get's me through it

Oh btw my mom always says to say a prayer before a flight. have your family sit with you for a minute or two in silence and just pray for a safe flight and safe return.

I will pray for you sweetie, my fellow bon jovi sing a long chick.

I was so scared the first time I got on a plane. After that, I loved it. I flew to London and Italy and Vegas. Bring your fav magazine or plug in your headsets turn on the music, put your feet up and enjoy the ride. You will be fine. Flying is safer than driving. I will pray for your plane to make it safe. :

DONT FORGET TO HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can relate... and we'll be on a 12 1/2 hour flight for our HM in 21 days!!!

I can't really give you any advice since i'm going to need it also, but are you going with your fiance? My FH absolutely LOVES flying so I think flying with him will be a little easier on me.

yes, i'm going with vinny-- THANK GOD.

i think my fear comes from a somewhat reasonable place. i've had some pretty bad experiences. i've flown maybe 5 times total in my life and one time: we dropped altitude in MID AIR randomly about 2,000 feet in about 3 seconds... so bad, people who didn't have their belts on flew up and hit their heads on the ceiling of the airplane. another time, lightning struck the wing of our plane. another time: we landed on one wheel and skidded off the runway when coming in. another time, there was so much turbulance that the flight attendants put all the food/drinks away and sat down, buckeled up and started rubbing their heads and praying-- one of them started to cry!!!!!

I mean, out of the five times I've flown-- four of them were near nightmares: THOSE are not good odds!!!!! So I think those experiences make me scared b/c since then, when I fly or think about flying I just re-live those things and worse happening-- and 9/11 didn't make it much better, plus, this is my first time flying since then

I can relate to your fears of flying. When you have been in several scary situations you tend to think that it will happen again. I used to fly really often when I was a kid (my parents are bi-coastal). My sister and I had to fly mostly by ourselves and we have had our fair share of scary flights I still fly really often but not with out worry. I've found that distraction and works best for me. I read, watch the movie, talk with other people, ect. I had to fly again a few weeks ago and I bought a ton of bridal magazines and before I knew it the flight was over! You will have a wonderful trip

I agree with the sleeping pill although I dont know how long the flight is. I took Ambien nwhen I went to Australia and I felt like a million bucks when I woke up! Tylenol PM makes me feel like I have a hang over.
