NWR: Girls that get coldsores

Hi, Please post your remedies.
Nothing seems to work for me

I'm so afraid I'm going to wake up with
one on my wedding day.

Abreeva OTC. It works amazing but you have to put it on as soon as you get that tingle! I also put vaseline over it to keep it from cracking and bleeding!

I take lysine - you can get at any drugstore. Also, a guy in my office suggested vitamin C.

Abreva does cut down on the time, but you can also get a perscription from your doctor that makes them go away faster.

Used a small lip balm that comes in a yellow tube with a red cap, can't remember the name of it off the top of my head, but it does cut down the time I have a cold sore down to about 2 days. Plus it's cheap (about $2) in the store.

I tried Abreva last time ($16 for a tiny tube!) and it didn't really cut it down much for me.

Blistex. Works like a charm every time.

Abreva doesn't work much for me, but I do take Lysine tablets like crazy when I get one.

At night, I apply a little Calamine lotion to it, it helps dry it out and curbs the itching a bit.

I tried abreva and no luck. I've never heard of Lysine.....does
your doctor have to prescribe it???

No, it's over the counter (OTC) you can get it at any drugstore or GNC/Vitamin Shoppe etc.

I have tried almost every remedy and unfortunately I find that none of them work for me. I was terrified I would get one the day of my wedding as well. When I spoke with my doctor she said that they are more common when your skin is dried out. I just used face moisturizer and chapstick to keep the dry skin away. It was fine. That is all I can recommend.

I am one who suffers from them often....so often...just got over not one but two a wk ago!

Caused from stressing over my e-pics!
There is no getting RID of them forever....unfortunately!
They stay dorment until something triggers them....Stress/Sun/low Immune system.
In order to avoid that and I should take my own advice come near my wedding, take lysine pills daily.
When you do feel the tingle, one that is ready to come out, I find taking Valtrex (prescription) tends to speed up the recovery process and tends to not make them come out as much. I do that w/some cream..Abreva,Denavir(prescription) or Herpecin. I also keep taking the Lysine
I suggest seeing a doctor who can offer the prescription.
I know this is easier said than done,but... try not to stress.
Good luck!

I am fearing 'it' to because I feel like they haunt me when I would least like one! But I do use valtrex (prescription) pills when I have one and it reduces the time I have one. I also take L-lysine daily as well. I bought them in the vitamin section of CVS.

My brother has a prescription for them - I think it's called Famvir - works all the time.

Anyone have a good cover up method? I woke up with a huge cold sore on Sunday when I have never had one before and I didn't know what to do. I went to the doc yesterday and got a prescription cream and am currently avoiding work and people because even the doctor looked at me like I was a leper. Help!

Like you, I get them often. Doc prescribed Valtrex, but even that doesn't work too well. They're DEFINITELY stress-related....and I HATE THEM.

this is fail safe--warm salt water on a cotton ball, or washcloth...hold it on for at least an hour, keep reheating the water...works wonders!

I've learned that a great way for me to avoid getting them altogether, is to make sure my lips are lubricated all the time. I always put on chapstick throughout the day and ALWAYS before I go to bed.

This works wonders, but sometimes it's just hormonal. I ALWAYS get one the first day of my period. Never fails!
