NWR: Girls who have had surgery

How long was it before you were really able to be up and moving again? I had an appendectomy last week but I'm still sore. . . I'm supposed to be training for the half-marathon, but I can't even walk fast without the area hurting, let alone run

I'm just getting bummed out at the thought that I might not be able to build up my endurance if I don't start running again soon

I mean - I can walk fine - I just want to start working out again, but I'm still too sore to start running and working out at the gym.

Just curious how long other people waited. Maybe I'm just being a big baby and should suck it up! lol.

It took me about 2 to 3 weeks to recover after my surgery but I didn't have an appendectomy

i dont think i went running for a little while afrer my surgery but i had the laproscopic incisions (they tried that before realized it ruptured) and the big 4-5' appendectomy cut so it took a while to recover.

ask your doctor but you should be fine pretty soon w/ laparoscopic

I'm not sure if I would start working out right away...I had my surgery 3 yrs ago, I was hospitalized for 5 days and was home recovering for over 3 weeks..
My brother just had his appendix out and they advised him not to lift anything or work for 5 weeks..
I'd def contact your doctor before doing anything!

just spoke to my brother, his gf had her appendix out last year (through the belly button) and she was told to not do lifting or anything athletic (she dances) for at least 2 weeks
so just take it easy for a bit

That is true, with it done laparoscopic you should be back to yourself soon.

I'd wait a solid 2-3 weeks and then see how you feel. You don't want to strain anything internally and/or get a hernia. After two and a half to three weeks work your way up. You should be fine by May if you work really hard in March and April. Good Luck and Feel Better.

I had mine out 2yrs ago. It tokk about 2wks before I felt 90% and about that long to wear real clothes . I was off of work for 1month becasue of the lifting involved. I was told 4-6wks before running/working out again. I would talk to the doc about this. He can give you oodles of advice

I had my appendix out too. It *****. I had a c section and it was much easier. I think it's because of where the incision is. I was sore for a few weeks but I was not allowed to work out or lift anything heavy for a while.
