NWR: Girls w/IBS

Original post by Toucan311

I know we got into a huge conversation last week about anxiety, and I'm sure some people here also suffer from IBS/Irritable Bowel. Anyhow, I've had it for years and I've tried everything from drugs to metamucil to no dairy, etc. Nothing helped. But I just bought that Activia Yogurt, and OMG, it changed my life. You have to try it. I wont get into any specific details but it really works!

That blows, I'm sorry. But I was recommending to use the bathroom locator, not immodium. I can't imagine taking immodium almost everyday, I'm sure it's not good for you. My dr. put me on a prescription medication, I use it only when necessary because it makes me tired but it has really come in handy. Maybe your dr. can recommend something else. I can give you the name of mine if you need it, I love him.

What med are you on??? I'm on a new one that says it makes you tired, but it doesn't affect me. It's called Pamine Forte.

The ONLY thing that helped me was Zoloft!! Yes it worked BUT it made me gain weight and so after a year of taking it, I stopped. Maybe you can try it but it takes time to work. Good Luck. I think Im a GI expert now after all these years of having IBS. Now I have GERD and I dont know which is worse.

Out of necessity I know where every easily accessable bathroom on Long Island is!

Me too!! its a horrible feeling. I never wanted to go far from home. Believe it or not it limits me. I will not take a job in the city b/c Im afraid of the commute etc with IBS.

I'll basically use any bathroom anywhere at this point Ive been in some of the seediest gas station bathrooms ever.

The only way i've found to combat it is not to eat. I spend a LOT of my life hungry...

The most frustrating thing EVER is that i don't lose weight even though sometimes what i eat is DIRECT DEPOSIT...(goes right in and right out - that's my cute name for it)... I apparently get enough of the protein or vitamins & fat from the food & don't lose any weight at all...

It's funny you say that because IBS keeps me pretty thin because I'm scared to eat, and whatever I do eat, well I'll let you finish that one. I call it reverse bulemia

Absolutely, yogurt is definitely a lifesaver when it comes to IBS...

I WISH...that i at least lost weight because of it - but nope... The new gastro said i may have been misdiagnosed 10 years ago and it could be something worse. He was SHOCKED when i said that i go at least 15 times a day! He asked - how often do you go? I said any time I eat - so he says 3 times then? I had to tell him no - i go maybe 4 times per time i eat...

I get a LOT of reading done though!

I've actually had issues when I DON'T eat too - i still go...it *****!

sorry, i don't think it's funny that you get 'sick' but i think it's funny that you mentioned the reading. I get most of my reading done in the bathroom as well, and now i keep my game boy in there as well... between eating, and stress, i basically live in there these days.

is anyone else TERRIFIED for the day of their wedding? I can't imagine having IBS in my dress. I would honestly strip down naked everytime I had to go, and that won't be easy with my corset back

Petrified! That's why I started going back to a new gastro! I need to get this in check before that day!!

As of the moment - the medicine he gave me is working - but i'm petrified that it won't still be working in 5 months...

I think the reading thing is hysterical. FH has actually started putting the Entertainment Weekly in the bathroom for me now every Friday..

It took him awhile to not ask, as soon as I got out of the bathroom, 'Are you okay?'...i kept telling him that made me feel worse - no - i'm obviously not okay - it's been 20 minutes since i saw you last dorkus!!!

Which way is your IBS though? For me - it's D(i can never spell it)... For that - bran only makes it worse... I tried that when I was first diagnosed...
