NWR: Good Books?

Original post by SoonToBeMrsVi

FH and I are going on a mini-vacation next month and I'd like to pick up a few books to read while we are away. Does anyone have any good recommendations? Nothing too heavy just some light, quick reading for the beach.

Twilight series and the Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris! I'm a vamp nerd...but they're both really quick reads and entertaining. My all time favorite are the two Bridget Jones books...those are the best.

I just started 'The Strain' by Guillermo Del Toro (Yes, the director of Pan's Labrinyth) and it's pretty good! It's described at Stephen King meets Anne Rice.

oooo I may want to borrow that from you when you are done!

Definitely! I like it, too, because it all starts in NY (what else is new?) and they're all in Woodside and Rego Park and at JFK. I'm like Hey! I know that street! Haha. And it's the first in a trilogy, just came out a few mos. ago!

I am reading 'Under the Dome' by Stephen King on my kindle right now. I am NOT a stephen king fan, but this is different than his other books, and very very good

Dear John - Nicholas Sparks

Anything by Elin Hildebrand (her books are all about summers in Nantucket, interesting things happening there)

Harlan Coben - but get the stand alone books, not the Myron Bolitar series

Sophie Kinsella

Jane Green - just read Dune Road and The Beach House, but she has other good books too

I don't really read a lot of light 'beach reading'..

but I did just read 'Last Night in Twisted River' by Johb irving and I loved it. It's totally not beach reading, but it was great.

I also love anything by Tom Robbins and 'B is for Beer' is a really quick read.

I guess the closest thing to beach reading is if you haven't already read the Harry Potter series an the Twilight Series.

I just downloaded that to my kindle last night - I'm glad to hear it's good!

Any of the David Sedaris books - they are these very dry sarcastic ridiculously funny essays.

And Augusten Burroughs is excellents as well - Possible Side Effects is one of my favs!

And then there's always good old Nicholas Sparks - light lovey dovey fluff! I love it!

I love all Nicholas Sparks books. He had a new one out in Sept. I havent read it yet, but heard it was good.

I'm currently reading South of Broad by Pat Conroy and it's great.

For the lightest of reading...Sophie Kinsella, Plum Sykes, Jennifer Weiner...all good girly books.

Books by Anita Shreve are also really good. Body Surfing was my favorite
