NWR - Has anyone done that THERMAL RECONDITIONING to their hair?
I'm looking for real life stories about this procedure. Has anyone here gone through it? Would like to know, especially from someone with really curly hair (like me - see pic below).
In case some don't know what Thermal Reconditioning is, it's a Japanese treatment that flattens wavy/curly hair stick straight, with little, or no, blow-drying for approx. 6 months.

I would love to do it; but my hairdresser said that it would damage my hair too much.

That's what I'm afraid of myself... I'd rather see someone else experience it first... lol.
Jimmy's, thanks for the threads, i'll look into them.

i ahve been getting the thermal reconditioning done for 2 years now- so ive had it done 4 times. its the best thing i had ever done!!! it was life changing. my hair was frizzy curly- gross. now its smooth and straight- i never have to blow dry my hair anymore. my brothers girlfriend and all of her friends have gotten it done as well by the same hairdresser as me and they all love it as well. i havent met anyone who has gotten it done that didnt love it .

It's expensive, isn't it? And what do you do about the hair growing in during that 6 months? Isn't it your natural curly hair at the root and straight for the rest? Do you have to be really careful for like a week after getting it done cause you hair could get stuck with waves in it?

For those who have had it done, what salon did you use?

I do it twice a year. I go to a Japanese salon in West Village. FM if you want the info.
I LOVE it. The best thing I ever did. I had kinky curly hair that took a LONG time to straighten...and this process completely changed the texture of my hair. When I get out of the shower my hair has a slight wave to it and it takes me 10 minutes to dry it straight. If I dont dry it, its pretty straight just not as smooth.
If you have pretty curls I dont recomend this because you won't get the curls back. Also, this process is not for people with a slight curl or wave...you really should have thick very curly hair or your hair will end up limp. I have seen and heard about horror stories associated with this process. If you are going to do it make sure you have seen the results the salon has had. My hair is shiny and healthier than its ever been. But some salons literally fry your hair.
